Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Oh the Summer time is coming
And the trees are sweetly blooming
And the wild mountain thyme
All around the blooming heather
Will ye go lassie go........
And we'll al lgo together
To pull wild mountain thyme
From around the blooming heather
Will ye go lassie go

I will build my love a bower
Near yon pure crystal fountain
And on it I will pile
All the flowers of the mountain
Will ye go lassie go............
And we'll all go together
To pull wild mountain thyme
From around the blooming heather
Will ye go lassie go
.
If my true love she were gone
I will surely find no other
Where wild mountain thyme
All around the blooming heather
Will ye go lassie go...........
And we'll all go together
To pull wild mountain thyme

From around the blooming heather
Will ye go lassie go

There are a lot of great versions of this song, my favorite was probably one of The Corries performances, but today it's Don's version. I actually opened for Don back in the 70s a couple of times, a super nice man he was, and effortless singing.

This song is about doing something that you love today , not waiting for tomorrow. It's such a positive song , it's about enjoying life .

Tremendous, and commented with my due thanks. Other great versions of this song I have heard include Glenn Frey, The Byrds, and last but not least (actually . . . first) Bob Dylan "Isle of Wight - 1969. Great song, and wow to hear the terrific Don Williams performing this with The Chieftains, who I was respectfully introduced to via the masterful Van Morrison a long time ago, is so fine.
