Born in Chicago, Illinois, Jones' upbringing was rough. He struggled between wanting to be a musician and to be a member of a street gang. After a brush with death, Jones left the gang and focused on a music career forming the group Porscha. However, Jones was gaining notice as a writer penning songs for established R&B acts such as Usher, producing the singer's 1995 hit, "Think of You", 702's "Get It Together" and also wrote for groups such as Brownstone and Silk.
In 1996, he signed with LaFace Records and released his debut album, My Heart, which included his hit cover of Stevie Wonder's 1976 ballad "Knocks Me Off My Feet". It wasn't until 1999 however that Jones began to establish himself as a R&B hit maker with the album, Where I Wanna Be. The album yielded the number-one hits such as "U Know What's Up", which featured TLC member Lisa "Left-Eye" Lopes and the title track. Other hits included "Shorty (Got Her Eyes on Me)" and "This Luv".
In 2002, Jones released the gold-selling Life Goes On album, which featured the hits, "You Know That I Love You" and "Put Me Down" featuring Styles P.. Four years later, he released his fourth album, Journey of a Gemini, which featured the Tim & Bob hit, "I'm Gonna Be", which became a big hit on Urban AC. Jones is currently writing songs for Usher, Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey on their upcoming albums.
Apple Pie

I remember when met you back in June
Knew you had a man, but I was diggin' you
I behaved patiently, waiting for you to come running to me (ooh yeah...)
Now we're in July, hanging everyday
Sex is on my mind, cuz you're next to me
I've been a gentleman, now it's time to let a n***a get in (ooh lady...)
Why... should I... give myself to you
I think it's too soon
So girl I'm just not your average guy
C'mon break me a piece of your apple pie
And if... I do... then tell me just what will I get from you
Oh, girl I'm a man with a hearty appetite
C'mon break me a piece and you will see tonight
[Verse 2:]
Girl it's been a while, and I'm hungry now
Know you want me to, why you holdin' out
I gonna be good to you (I wanna be good to you)
I'mma do the things your man couldn't do (lady..)
What's it gonna be, no more questionin'
Ass is tease me, patience running thin
I know you're trynna take your time
But that apple pie is bound to be mine (ooh lady...)
[Chorus:]
Why... should I... give myself to you
I think it's too soon
So girl I'm just not your average guy
C'mon break me a piece of your apple pie
And if... I do... then tell me just what will I get from you
Oh, girl I'm a man with a hearty appetite
C'mon break me a piece and you will see tonight
So tell me what do I need to do to get a taste from you
Won't you come and lay down with me and make yourself comfortable
Your booty's looking right, enough to fill my appetite
Don't put up a fight, baby let me come inside
For that apple pie
It's bound to make me lose my mind
So c'mon baby....
[Chorus:]
Why... should I... give myself to you
I think it's too soon
So girl I'm just not your average guy
C'mon break me a piece of your apple pie
And if... I do... then tell me just what will I get from you
Oh, girl I'm a man with a hearty appetite
C'mon break me a piece and you will see tonight
[Bridge:]
Break me off a piece of your apple pie girl
Break me off a piece of that apple pie girl
Break me off a piece of your apple pie girl
Break me off a piece of that apple pie girl
Said I'm taking off those clothes tonight...
[Chorus]
The song "Apple Pie" by Donell Jones appears to be about a man who is interested in a woman who is already in a relationship. He has been patiently waiting for her to come to him, and now he is ready to take things to the next level. He is persistent in his pursuit of her, asking her to break him off a piece of her "apple pie" and promising to be better than her current partner. Throughout the song, he is trying to convince her to be with him and give him a chance.
The lyrics imply a sense of urgency and a lack of respect for boundaries. The woman is in a committed relationship, yet the male protagonist of the song is still trying to win her over. He's focused on his own desire and willing to do whatever it takes to satisfy his appetite, ignoring the possibility of causing emotional harm to the woman and her current partner.
Overall, the song raises questions about the boundaries and ethics of romantic relationships. The lyrics suggest that the man doesn't quite respect the woman's autonomy and decision-making abilities, instead pushing her to make a choice based solely on his wants and desires.

He does not need to resort to that Pop R&B Music. He is great at what he does & should stick with it. Too much of that Pop R&B is all that is on TV & it makes me sick to my stomach quite frankly. I hope the industry wakes up soon & acknowledge what talent this Man truly has.

Me neither giiirl. I'm listening to songs from him that I've never heard before, and they sound sooo good. He could've made a hit off of any one of them.
