"I Love You Always Forever" was hugely successful on U.S. radio, staying at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 for nine consecutive weeks and spending thirteen consecutive weeks at number one on the airplay chart. It exceeded one million "spins" on radio to claim its place in music industry history as the most-played single up to that point. The single reached number five on the UK Singles Chart in 1996. The popularity of the song shot Lewis's debut album, Now in a Minute, to platinum status.
Her second LP, Blue Planet, won critical acclaim, but it was largely overlooked by the public. Although it eventually produced a U.S. number-one dance single, "Love Him", Lewis parted ways with Atlantic Records and independently produced her third LP, Be Still, which featured Lewis on an almost entirely acoustic set. Lewis was featured as a guest vocalist on several trance music/house music recordings. Her most recent LP, In the Pink, was release in 2008.

I had my picture taken out on the boardwalk
I gathered up all the heat of the moment
And I wrote it down in a letter to remember
What it was like to wear that pink dress
Out on the boardwalk
I had my picture taken in a red dress
I wrapped the velvet red up in a fireball
And walked across the water to remember
What it was like to wear that red dress
Out on the boardwalk
sometimes it all feels
Heavenly
Sometimes it all feels
Heavenly
The lyrics of "Pink Dress" by Donna Lewis speak to the power of memories and how they can immortalize moments of perfection. The singer begins by describing a photograph of herself wearing a pink dress, taken on a boardwalk. She reminisces about the "heat of the moment" and being inspired to write about it in a letter. The significance of the dress is clear - it represents something special.
The song then switches to a memory of herself in a red dress, standing under a streetlamp. The color red is often associated with love and passion, and the fireball imagery accompanied by walking across water suggests an other-worldly and magical experience. Again, the singer is careful to articulate her feelings, so she holds onto them through a memory.
The last two lines of the song - "Sometimes it all feels heavenly" - ties everything together. The moments captured in the pink and red dress remind her of a time when everything in life felt perfect. The sensation is ethereal, almost heavenly, representing a feeling that's not easily forgotten.
