Hurts Just a Little
Donna Summer Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Perfect love you will never find
Say goodbye to what's left
Behind
Your release is way overdue
Let your tears be a friend to you

If it hurts just a little be glad of it
Don't get caught in the middle
Thinking 'bout it
If it hurts just a little be glad of it
If you try you will see, what will be
Hurts just a little

Silent eyes make your public life
And the lies can be cold as ice
How could you ever be so blind
Bet you never ever ever thought
That love could be so kind

If it hurts just a little be glad of it
Don't get caught in the middle
Thinking 'bout it
If it hurts just a little be glad of it
If you try you will see, what will be
Hurts just a little

see'mon baby, see'mon sugar, see'mon
Honey (darlin')
see'mon baby, see'mon sugar, see'mon
Honey (darlin')
see'mon baby, see'mon sugar, see'mon
Honey (darlin')
It's a crime of passion
That's just what it means to me

If it hurt just a little be glad of it
Don't get caught in the middle
Thinking 'bout it
If it hurts just a little be glad of it
If you try you will see
If it hurt just a little be glad of it
Don't get caught in the middle
Thinking 'bout it
If hurts just a little be glad of it
If you try you will see

see'mon baby, see'mon sugar, see'mon
Honey (darlin')
see'mon baby, see'mon sugar, see'mon
Honey (darlin')

see'mon baby, see'mon sugar, see'mon
Honey (darlin')...

Overall Meaning

The song 'Hurts Just a Little' by Donna Summer is about the pain of love and moving on. The lyrics suggest that although perfect love may seem elusive, we should not give up hope as we should be glad for even the little moments of happiness that love gives us. The line "If it hurts just a little be glad of it" implies that we should embrace any pain we feel as a result of love, as it is a necessary part of the process. The song is empowering in its message, urging the listener to let go of the past and not get caught up in thinking about what might have been.

Cassius and Donna Summer. Class acts they are.

Miss them greatly. I wonder what conversations Mrs. Summer and Zdar are having...

The best song out of the Donna Summer and Quincy Jones' collaboration.

Ironman Hondo

You can tell that Quincy Jones produced this song. Rod Templeton might have written this song. It has that Michael Jackson sound to it.But Donna Summer still managed to make it hers. She is one of the true greats of music.

@sandalero with overdubs sequence track

sandalero

written by the sembello brothers 1982, 6 months before recording for thriller began (which was finished in 8 weeks) . basically everything is a drumcomputer and bass , synth , keys, the whole layout is just a sequencer and greg and quincy. then overdubs. super fast workflow with three 24 track tape machines synched by SMPTE which were downmixed and left alone and used ONLY at the end for final mixdown (transients stay intact by NOT playing back tape). analog hifi meltdown. then cutting tracks in half to have less playtime per side, a proper groove-width per viinyl side - #donttrythisathome

Brings back memories of WIOQ in Philly. Working night shift at Sun Oil in the 80's

Interesting I didn't know Michael had a brother in the music business. Also Cruz Sembello (sister or wife ?) sang vocals on other tracks.

Thomas Öhlén

Actually it is the WAY underrated Micheal Sembello that wrote this song together with his brother Danny. He is also playing the guitar solo as is featured on backing vocals
