Last Dance
Donna Summer Lyrics

Last dance
Last chance, for love
Yes, it's my last chance, for romance, tonight

I need you, by me
Beside me, to guide me
To hold me, to scold me
'Cause when I'm bad
I'm so, so bad

So let's dance, the last dance
Let's dance, the last dance
Let's dance, this last dance tonight

Last dance, last chance for love
Yes it's my last chance
For romance tonight

Oh, I need you, by me
Beside me, to guide
To hold me, to scold me
'Cause when I'm bad
I'm so, so bad

So let's dance, the last dance
Let's dance, the last dance
Let's dance, this last dance tonight

Will you be my Mr. Right?
Can you fill my appetite
I can't be sure that you're the one for me
But all that I ask is that you dance with me
Dance with me, Dance with me, yeah

Oh I need you, by me
Beside me, to guide me
To hold me, to scold me
'Cause when I'm bad
I'm so, so bad

So let's dance, this last dance
Let's dance, this last dance
Let's dance, this last dance
Let's dance, this last dance tonight

Oh I need you, by me
Beside me, to guide me
To hold me, to scold me
'Cause when I'm bad
I'm so, so horny

So, come on baby, dance that dance

Come on baby, dance that dance
Come on baby, let's dance tonight

Overall Meaning

"Last Dance" is a 1978 disco song by Donna Summer that is considered a timeless classic of the genre. The song is widely interpreted as a goodbye to nightlife, as the lyrics suggest the singer is looking for one final dance before calling it a night. The opening line, "last dance, last chance for love," is repeated throughout the song and sets the tone for what is ultimately a heartfelt plea from the singer to her lover to hold her, scold her, and guide her through this final dance. The lines "I need you, by me / beside me, to guide me" reinforce the vulnerability of the singer and her reliance on her lover at this moment.

The song's chorus is a catchy, upbeat invitation to dance, as the singer encourages her lover to join her one last time on the dance floor. The line "Will you be my Mr. Right?" adds a layer of uncertainty to the song, suggesting that the singer has not yet found the one but is hoping that this final dance might lead to something more. The song's dramatic climax comes towards the end when the singer implores her lover to dance with her, using repetition and a soaring melody to convey a sense of urgency.

R.I.P. Donna Summer.....you were an amazing talented woman ! No autotune. Just Talent. You had a voice that could belt out the music even on your bad day compared to what we have now.
The only ones comparable are Whitney and Celine.
