Thinkin' Bout My Baby
Donna Summer Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I was walkin', down the street
I was lookin' to someone who was standing there
And didn't seem to really care

I was lookin' out the window
I was hopin', that the sun would show
Didn't know, didn't know
I was
Thinkin' bout him, thinkin' about my baby
Thinkin' bout him, thinkin' about my baby
Thinkin' bout him, thinkin' about my baby, yeah...

I was searchin', for a sunny day
I was hopin', for someone to say
Would you come out?
Instead I stood and I pout

I was
Thinkin' bout him, thinkin' about my baby
Thinkin' bout him, thinkin' about my baby
Thinkin' bout him, thinkin' about my baby,
Thinkin' bout him, thinkin' about my baby, yeah...

Want my baby, lookin' for him high and the
Love, yeah
Want my baby, he's the only way to fly I
Know, yeah

I was searchin' for another day
I was hopin', just to see your smilin' face,
Your smilin' face

I was
Thinkin' bout him, thinkin' about my baby
Thinkin' bout him, thinkin' about my baby
Thinkin' bout him, thinkin' about my baby
Thinkin' bout him, thinkin' about my baby, yeah, yeah...

Thinkin' bout my baby, thinkin' about my baby
Thinkin' bout my baby, thinkin' about my baby...

Overall Meaning

In Donna Summer's song "Thinkin' Bout My Baby," the singer tells the story of someone who is searching for their lover. They are walking down the street and looking at everyone around them, hoping to find the one they love. The person they are searching for is someone who doesn't seem to care about them, but they can't help thinking about them. They are hoping for a sunny day and someone to come and find them, but instead, they are left standing there with nothing to do but pout.

It's clear from the lyrics that the singer is deeply in love with "him" and can't stop thinking about him. They are searching for him high and low and are hoping to see his smiling face. It's clear that whoever "he" is in this song means everything to the singer, even if they don't seem to feel the same way.

Overall, "Thinkin' Bout My Baby" is a poignant song about unrequited love and the pain that comes with it. It's a song that many people can relate to, as everyone has experienced the pain of loving someone who doesn't love them back.

I loved this album so much, when my cassette broke, I searched high and low, pre-internet and while on holiday in Sydney Australia, I walked into a record store and voila there it was, in CD format!!!....this song is a true treasure and has played in my head for over 25 yrs, whenever I hum, or sing to myself, this is melody heard...lol THANKS FOR POSTING.

I too have the album and like every song on it. This one is especially beautiful. It has many similarities to another song called "Seasons Change " from Expose which came out the same year "All Systems Go " was released. It even sounds like Donna Summer is singing about the same thing that the women of Expose are singing about just in a different way. It seems like this song ought to have been released and yet it never happened.

@RICHMOND BEAN Funny part about this song is that, i was thinking about an imaginery baby when it came out. I was actually not in a relationship. The songs had all the fantasies.

I never met anyone who didn’t love Donna Summer! Even little kids loved her, like Michael Jackson. Donna was Magnetic and Magical and made millions of people happy with her music and movies and art. There will never be another Donna Summer.

From her greatest album ever. Love this and voices crying out.

@Jimmie Jam Of The Day: Non-Monetized Channel imo there are good songs on this album and some lesser ones. But this one is a gem.
