Someday We'll All Be Free
Donny Hathaway Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hang on to the world as it spins around
Just don't let the spin get you down
Things are moving fast
Hold on tight and you will last

Keep your self respect, your manly pride
Get yourself in gear
Keep your stride
Never mind your fears
Brighter days will soon be here
Take it from me, someday we'll all be free, yeah

Keep on walking tall
Hold your head up high
Lay your dreams right up to the sky
Sing your greatest song
And you'll keep going, going on

Take it from me, someday we'll all be free
Hey, just wait and see, some day we'll all be free, yeah
Take it from me, someday we'll all be free

It won't be long, take it from me, someday we'll all be free
Take it from me, take it from me, take it from me

I was 16 years old when this came out in 1973. I had an abusive father and stepmother. Told me I would never amount to anything and to add to the sorrow I lost my real mother to illness. When the abuse would hit hard from them I would listen to this song and all of a sudden I would think of my mother and get strong as hell. Well I am a retired history teacher now. I proved them all wrong . So I inspired my students to fight through the abuse they would endure from home to rise up. Achieve. Let nothing stand in your way. Press on. I have Donny Hathaway to thank. Donny you helped me to lift kids up. Thank you brother. Rest in power.

Rest in power. I'm so proud of you. You made yourself into a good person. You have to choose. It's a choice. No one can tell you how to live or what to do. No one. You have to choose your path and I love what you chose. I'm choosing to walk a path of righteousness. I'll protect the weak and shelter them and guide them. With all that I am I feel as if I am meant to protect. My country. It's so hard. I would be a Soldier but my country has failed my people and aren't taking accountability and they never have. They never cared. So I'm going to protect my friends and family. As much as I can, when I can. Because I want to have adventure aswell. So traveling would be nice. Meeting people and growing as a person.
