Raining down as cold as ice
A shadow of a man, a face through a window
Crying in the night, the night goes into
Morning, just another day
Happy people pass my way
Looking in their eyes I see a memory
You came and you gave without taking
But I sent you away, oh, Mandy
You kissed me and stopped me from shaking
And I need you today, oh, Mandy
I'm standing on the edge of time
I walked away when love was mine
Caught up in a world of uphill climbing
The tears are in my mind and nothing is rhyming, oh, Mandy
You came and you gave without taking
But I sent you away, oh, Mandy
You kissed me and stopped me from shaking
And I need you today, oh, Mandy
Yesterday's a dream I face the morning
Crying on the breeze, the pain is calling, oh, Mandy
You came and you gave without taking
But I sent you away, oh, Mandy
You kissed me and stopped me from shaking
And I need you today, oh, Mandy
You came and you gave without taking
But I sent you away, oh, Mandy
Well, you kissed me and stopped me from shaking
And I need you, I need you, ooh
Oh, I need you, Mandy, I need you
Oh, Mandy, Mandy, Mandy
The lyrics to Donny Osmond's "Mandy" tell the story of a man who reflects back on his past love, Mandy. He remembers the pain and loneliness he felt when she left him, and how he never fully appreciated her love while they were together. He describes how even though he was surrounded by happy people, he felt empty and lost without her. He longs for her to return, to stop the shaking he feels inside and to bring him the happiness she once did. The song ends on a desperate note, with the singer still pining for Mandy and feeling the pain of their separation.
The lyrics of the song are deeply emotional, and they speak to the power of love to transform and heal. The singer's regret for not appreciating Mandy enough while they were together, and his desire to be with her again, is a common theme in many love songs. The repeated refrain of "I need you, Mandy" underscores the sense of longing and desperation that the singer feels. This song is a classic example of a power ballad that addresses the universal theme of lost love.
