The name of the ba… Read Full Bio ↴The Donots formed in 1993 in Ibbenbüren, Germany.
The name of the band came into being by chance: The bassist of the band, Jan-Dirk Poggemann wanted to name the band like the pastries donuts, but he wrote the name the wrong way by mistake. The other band members liked the name, because they found their philosophy in the name (donots = do nothing, like slackers), so they retained the name. Very rarely the band calls themselves "Ibbtown Rockers" because of their provenance.
The US edition of “Wake The Dogs” features 14 new songs from the punk-veterans, plus 2 additional bonus tracks not included in the original German release, and was released on OK! Good Records.

Fingernails are growing short, there ain't no doubt
Everybody wants another part of my wings
I gotta keep you out, shut you out so I plug them in
I got my headphones
Me and my headphones
All I want today is something I can ignore
I got my headphones
Me and my headphones
I gotta let go
I need my...
Come and hear me
Gotta listen
Turn it up for my final transmission
Come and hear me
Gotta listen
Watch me go, I'm a man on a mission
Do you read me?
Are you out there?
Gonna run and make my way outta here
Come and hear me
Gotta listen
Gotta listen - Are you listening?
So this just in: My broadcast ends
But this ain't good-bye, this is good luck, my friends
I got my headphones
Me and my headphones
I get my batteries, get my tapes, get my player
I get up, I get going and I'm getting better
I need my headphones
Me and my headphones
I get my batteries, get my tapes, get my player
I get up, I get going and I'm getting better
Come and hear me
Gotta listen
Turn it up for my final transmission
Come and hear me
Gotta listen
Watch me go, I'm a man on a mission
Do you read me?
Are you out there?
Gonna run and make my way outta here
Come and hear me
Gotta listen
Gotta listen - Are you listening to me?
(Spoken)
She kissed me in New York City
She held my hand in Tokyo
She walked me down Leicester Square
And she found me passed out in Soho
She showed me round in Dublin
She even followed me to Rome
She kept me warm in Warsaw
And she always guided me back home
She's as good as it gets
She's as good as it gets
Can you hear me?
Are you listening?
Turn it up for my final transmission
Can you hear me?
Are you listening?
Watch me go, I'm a man on a mission
Do you read me?
Are you out there?
Gotta run and make my way outta here
Can you hear me?
Are you listening?
Are you listening?
Are you listening?
The song "Headphones" by Donots is about the desire for escape and disconnecting from the world. The first verse describes the pressure the singer feels from the demands of others, leading them to turn to their headphones as a way to shut everyone out. The chorus repeats the sentiment, emphasizing the importance of the headphones as a means of tuning out the noise of the world, including radio and TV. The second verse has a more optimistic tone, as the singer declares their intention to keep moving forward and improving themselves, with their trusty headphones always with them. The bridge contains a spoken word section, where the singer reflects on a past love who guided them through their travels, but ultimately, the song ends on a note of independence and strength.
The lyrics of "Headphones" are relatable to anyone who has ever felt overwhelmed by the pressures of society or just needed a break from reality. The repetition of "me and my headphones" emphasizes the importance of that personal space and how it can provide a sense of control in a chaotic world. The song's upbeat, pop-punk sound contrasts with the introspective lyrics, adding an empowering energy to the message. Overall, "Headphones" encourages listeners to embrace their individuality and take charge of their own path.
