The name of the band came into being by chance: The bassist of the band, Jan-Dirk Poggemann wanted to name the band like the pastries donuts, but he wrote the name the wrong way by mistake. The other band members liked the name, because they found their philosophy in the name (donots = do nothing, like slackers), so they retained the name. Very rarely the band calls themselves "Ibbtown Rockers" because of their provenance.
The US edition of “Wake The Dogs” features 14 new songs from the punk-veterans, plus 2 additional bonus tracks not included in the original German release, and was released on OK! Good Records.

These chords are yours to keep
Toight I'll guard your sleep
No matter what they see
You're more to me
Make this last forever
Cause we're amount to much
And I could be the crutch
To make you better
If I could rest my head on your shoulder
Untill it's over
How come you can see me?
Everyone walks right through me
I'm just a ghost, you see
I'm so out of reach
Make this last forever
Cause we're amount to much
When we're togehther
And I could be the crutch
To make you better
If I could rest my head on your shoulder
Untill it's over
We're killing time, not doing time
We'll be alright so close your eyes
Just take my hand and don't let go
(Until it's over)
We're killing time for one more time
Just roll the titles, say good-night
This casket's big enough for two
How come you can see me?
Everyone walks right through me
How come you can see me?
Everyone walks right through me
Make this last forever
Cause we're amount to much
When we're togehther
And you could be the crutch
To make me better
If you could rest your head on my shoulder
Untill it's over
We're killing time, not doing time
We'll be alright so close your eyes
Just take my hand and don't let go
(Until it's over)
We're killing time for one more time
Just roll the titles, say good-night
This casket's big enough for two
Killing time, not doing time
Untill it's over
Killing time for one more time
Untill it's over
Killing time, not doing time
Untill it's over
Killing time for one more time
Untill it's over
The lyrics to "Killing Time" by the Donots is all about finding someone who is more important to you than almost anything else. The singer is declaring that whoever they're addressing is so significant that they would do anything to protect them. The lyrics play with the idea of a strong relationship where both parties need each other. The lyrics talk about cherishing memories and guarding sleep. The lyrics talk about how they're able to be seen by this other person, unlike everyone else who walks through them like a ghost.
The chorus can be interpreted in many ways, though it appears to be about never wanting to waste time with somebody that you care most about. They don’t want to be in a harmful relationship that is just a waste of time. The singer says that they would do whatever it takes to hold onto their connection, including being someone's "crutch" and providing support to make them better. In the end, the lyrics stop making any effort to hold back and flat-out declare that the two of them together are "killing time."
The song creates a relatable experience of valuing someone immensely, without getting too sappy. It's sensible without leaning too heavily on cliches or platitudes. Overall, Killing Time is a great song that speaks to the desire we all have for connection and intimacy.
