The name of the ba… Read Full Bio ↴The Donots formed in 1993 in Ibbenbüren, Germany.
The name of the band came into being by chance: The bassist of the band, Jan-Dirk Poggemann wanted to name the band like the pastries donuts, but he wrote the name the wrong way by mistake. The other band members liked the name, because they found their philosophy in the name (donots = do nothing, like slackers), so they retained the name. Very rarely the band calls themselves "Ibbtown Rockers" because of their provenance.
The US edition of “Wake The Dogs” features 14 new songs from the punk-veterans, plus 2 additional bonus tracks not included in the original German release, and was released on OK! Good Records.

Solid Gold
Donots Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Don't ever rust
Like solid gold
We treat out trust
Every don't
Is still a must
Don't grow old,
Don't turn to dust
We sing
Oooooooooooh
Oooooooooooh
We can go anywhere
We can go anywhere
Oooooooooooh
Oooooooooooh
We can go anywhere
We can go anywhere
Golden rules
Won't ever rust
Like solid gold
We treat our trust
Stand by me,
Don't ever come undone
Stand by me,
Cause the proudest lungs are the loudest ones
So sing
Oooooooooooh
Oooooooooooh
We can go anywhere
We can go anywhere
Oooooooooooh
Oooooooooooh
We can go anywhere
We can go anywhere
Oooooooooooh
Oooooooooooh
Golden rules,
Don't ever rust
Oooooooooooh
Oooooooooooh
Golden rules
Won't ever rust,
No
The lyrics to Donots's song Solid Gold refer to the importance of trust and loyalty in relationships, seen as "golden rules" that shouldn't ever rust. The song encourages listeners to stand by each other and not let anything come undone, highlighting the strength and impact of support and unity. The repetition of the phrase "we can go anywhere" reinforces the idea of limitless potential and possibilities that arise from maintaining solid, unbreakable connections.
This song seems to be a nod towards meaningful friendships and the band's own strong bonds, as the Donots have been making music together for over two decades. The idea of the golden rule, treating others how you would like to be treated, is also clear in the lyrics, reflecting a sense of compassion and empathy for others. While the song also notes that every "don't" is still a must, suggesting that setting boundaries and acknowledging limits is just as important as showing support.
