The name of the band came into being by chance: The bassist of the band, Jan-Dirk Poggemann wanted to name the band like the pastries donuts, but he wrote the name the wrong way by mistake. The other band members liked the name, because they found their philosophy in the name (donots = do nothing, like slackers), so they retained the name. Very rarely the band calls themselves "Ibbtown Rockers" because of their provenance.
The US edition of “Wake The Dogs” features 14 new songs from the punk-veterans, plus 2 additional bonus tracks not included in the original German release, and was released on OK! Good Records.

When we find our outlines painted thin
Recently it's been getting harder
Since we do not know where to begin
Spring No.21
Will we ever see a brighter one?
A yearbook full of hopes
And a lifetime to understand their jokes
Where will we be tomorrow?
Where are we today?
So many people talk about tomorrow
When they havent even finished yesterday
Let's make this moment eternity
And cast our fears and duties away
Moments are so strong
When we're beyond the shades of right and wrong
To inhale the fresh air of relief
To overcome the grief
Where will we be tomorrow?
Where are we today?
This is
The story
So far
Make sure you send me a postcard
The story
So far
When you get to the point where the real life starts
Cause I wanna know
What it's like
I wanna know
What it's like
So far we're untitled
Chapter 21
And waiting for the things to come
Where will we be tomorrow?
Where are we today?
This is
The story
So far
Make sure you send me a postcard
The story
So far
When you get to the point where the real life starts
Cause I wanna know
What it's like
I wanna know
What it's like
This is
The story
So far
Make sure you send me a postcard
The story
So far
When you get to the point where the real life starts
Where the real life starts
Where the real life starts
Where the real life starts
Where the real life starts
(Wanna know)
Where the real life starts
(What it's like)
Where the real life starts

Where the real life starts

The Donots’s “The Story So Far” is a song about the uncertainty of life ahead, and the desire to live in the moment. The band members are looking toward the future, but are also thinking about the past. The lyrics describe how they try to remember the better days, but recently it’s been getting harder because they do not know where to begin. The lyrics are hopeful and positive, asking where they will be tomorrow and where they are today in order to live in the moment, casting their fears and worries aside to inhale the fresh air of relief and overcome grief.
The lyrics also talk about the way people tend to always talk about tomorrow, when they have not even finished yesterday. Instead, the lyrics urge the listeners to make this moment eternity and cast fears and duties away. They advise that moments are so strong when we are beyond the shades of right and wrong. The singer is asking the listener to let them in and tell them what it's like to experience the new beginnings of life. The song is a reminder to take life as it comes instead of worrying about the future or getting bogged down by past regrets.
