Jaded
Doomtree Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

pose with a ciggarete just to see who lights it first
aw love you didn't think the pirouettes would lift your skirt?
on the phone with a close friend who's name you don't know
something bigger came up baby
so sad you cant go
it's amazing what they let you get away with in dim light
and it's crazy watching you go pale in stage light
the handbills the fan mail
the photo that they shoot
you show up just to look at them lookin' at you
you've got that gold touch
you've got that mad rush of the bored and over-lonely
adored by young strangers
a stranger to old friends
you came up quick and now you've got the bad bends
can't remember which houses you live in which ones you visit
business is different than what you envisioned, isn't it?
all this cause and not an effect yet
just cause and percocet
bump the set till god can hear it
and quell the fear that i'm feeling that heaven is quite deaf.

and all i hear is king me, love me, watch me
did he love me
honey kiss me
is she off me
naughty you've been naughty ladi dadi move your body
or use you body language
A: because it's easy to read
B: because you're stuck in anxious-ville
C: you don't speak easily
yeah, we can be mind fuck buddies or the beast with two backpacks
you just got to trust somebody after you suck somebody into your laugh track
your audience is crying
and i know you've noticed
you're focusing in circles dear
i see your lips moving but all i hear is
does he still love me?
why don't he know that i'm in pain?
why dont he still need me?
why don't he know that i can change?

take steps like i don't wanna wake ya
not a sound from the floorboard
four more steps to the door
don't look back dont get shook
don't crack
don't act so took
don't tack another sorry on
time is gone for that just go
maybe cause the time was wrong
up in the head but the heart's a strong one
that's what i shoulda said
woulda coulda but the door still creeks
just leave
please just don't speak
these dreams need sleep and i woke
to a need to relieve not cope
hope don't float
hope sinks low
hope breeds free with the demons below

faith is a razorblade you can raise to the face of any hangman that gives you the rope
just go

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Doomtree’s song Jaded depict the life of a famous artist who is tired and disillusioned by the music industry. The opening lines describe the artist’s competitive nature and desire to be the first person to light a cigarette. The following lines reveal the artist’s realization that her pirouettes may be viewed in a sexual manner, epitomizing the objectification and sexualization of women in the media. The next lines describe the artist’s call with a close friend, whose name she does not even know, and how the friend cancels plans to go do something more important, highlighting the loneliness and isolation that comes with fame.

The artist then discusses how she can get away with anything in dim light, hinting at vices that she may indulge in. Meanwhile, the stage light exposes her vulnerabilities, and she is afraid that even God cannot hear her cries for help. The artist is caught between her adoring fans, who are mainly strangers to her, and the loss of her old friends. The last verse depicts the artist’s anxiety about not being loved, wanted or needed by others. Throughout the song, the artist struggles to find her place in the industry, and the lyrics illustrate the difficulties of being a famous artist in today’s society.

I know this is an old comment, but that is one of my favorite verses from this and I agree with you. I also love Eminem, just because he's now mainstream doesn't take away from how talented he is. One of the most talented mainstream artists in my opinion.

Aspen Rider

Does anyone agree that this kind if sound like bleeding hearts? (atmosphere and POS) the beat does...i found it weird! lo love em all:)

MShepherd88

Yeah I feel the same way about Eminem, I'm not sure that anyone can rhyme better than he can.

Baby Jayne

this is how you end an album!

MShepherd88

@slapbass18 Oh yeah, certainly not ashamed...I have a huge respect for Eminem and his ability to string words together the way he does. Most mainstream rappers don't come even close to the talent in the underground rap community, but Eminem is an exception.

HandcuffCharlie

Cecil's voice is entrancing

MShepherd88

@THEREALSIDGUY I'm not saying that I listen to Eminem regularly, I simply respect his amazing ability to string words together and do enjoy listening to his songs. I haven't bought a single Eminem album because while he can rhyme with of the best of them, I prefer the actual lyrical content of other rappers or groups.

TrashLurker

I don't understand all the hate for the mainstream. It makes everyone sound like a bunch of elitists. Sure most of it's shit (looking at CB, Drake, Wiz Khalifa etc), but I recently started listening to Odd Future and also a bit of eminem again, and their rhymes are sick, and the content of their raps is funny as fuck. Also, look at pac and Biggie, how 'mainstream' are they - they may not be played on the radio, but they're so well known by most people of the world.

sid

i've never seen a similarity to eminem but her verse in this song has always stood out to me because it's so unusually stylish. female rappers often imitate guys when they rap and she didn't do that, it was feminine.

Hip Hop Heaven

and here we go another dope female rapper.
