Clark Cole's self-titled solo debut, released in 2002, won two Stellar Awards and a Soul Train Lady of Soul Award (Best Female Gospel Artist). The album featured the hit single "I'm Coming Out". Her second album, The Rose of Gospel, was released in 2005. The live portions of both albums were produced by Asaph Ward, famous for his work with Kim Burrell who counts Dorinda as well as the Clark Sisters as a direct vocal influence.
Dorinda was featured on the title track of Kirk Franklin's Hero album.

I've Got A Reason
Dorinda Clark-Cole Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
That God has brought me through
If I had all night
It wouldn't be enough time to tell you
(I've got a reason to praise the Lord)
I could have been dead
Sleeping in my grave
That God has kept me so safe
(I've got a reason to praise)
The Lord has allowed me one more day
So I must give Him...
Give Him praise...Give Him praise
I've got a reason to praise the Lord
Verse 3
Many years have come and gone
But isn't it amazing that God kept us through every one
And today, right now where I stand, I've got a testimony
I've got a testimony... I've got a testimony
(I've got a reason to praise)
The Lord has allowed me one more day
So I must give Him...
Give Him praise...Give Him praise
I've got a reason to praise the Lord
(That's the reason)
I, I, I
Got a reason to praise the Lord
The lyrics of Dorinda Clark-Cole's song "I've Got A Reason" speak to the myriad of experiences the singer has had in her life, and how God has helped her through them. The first two verses specifically mention the challenges she has faced, with lines like "There are so many things that God has brought me through" and "I could have been dead sleeping in my grave." Despite these difficulties, the singer acknowledges that God has continued to keep her safe and allowed her to see another day.
Verse three shifts the focus from the past to the present, describing the gratitude the singer feels for still being alive and having a "testimony" to share, despite the passage of time. The recurring refrain of "I've got a reason to praise the Lord" reinforces the message of thankfulness and celebration that runs throughout the song.
Overall, the lyrics of "I've Got A Reason" are a testament to the power of faith and the ability to find joy and gratitude even in the face of adversity.

There are so many things
I have experienced a lot of things in life
That God has brought me through
But God has been my constant companion through all of them
If I had all night
Even if I had all night to talk about them
It wouldn't be enough time to tell you
I still wouldn't be able to tell you about all of them
(I've got a reason to praise the Lord)
But despite it all, I have a reason to praise the Lord
I could have been dead
There were times when I could have died
Sleeping in my grave
And been buried in a grave somewhere
But I thank God that it's another day
But I am grateful that I have been given another day to live
That God has kept me so safe
And that God has kept me safe and protected
(I've got a reason to praise)
And that is why I still have a reason to praise Him
The Lord has allowed me one more day
God has granted me another day to live
So I must give Him...
And so I must all the more give Him
Give Him praise...Give Him praise
My gratitude and praise
Many years have come and gone
It has been many years since then
But isn't it amazing that God kept us through every one
But it is amazing to see how God kept us through all those years
And today, right now where I stand, I've got a testimony
And right now, where I am standing, I have a testimony to share
I've got a testimony... I've got a testimony
I have a powerful testimony to share
(I've got a reason to praise)
And that is yet another reason for me to praise the Lord
The Lord has allowed me one more day
Once again, God has granted me another day to live
So I must give Him...
Therefore, it is all the more important for me to give Him
Give Him praise...Give Him praise
My gratitude and praise
I've got a reason to praise the Lord
Indeed, I have many reasons to praise the Lord
(That's the reason)
And that is why I praise Him
I, I, I
I myself
Got a reason to praise the Lord
Have a reason to praise the Lord
