Day's film career began during the latter part of the Classical Hollywood Film era with the 1948 film Romance on the High Seas, and its success sparked her twenty-year career as a motion picture actress. She starred in a series of successful films, including musicals, comedies, and dramas. She played the title role in Calamity Jane (1953), and starred in Alfred Hitchcock's The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) with James Stewart. Her most successful films were the bedroom comedies she made co-starring Rock Hudson and James Garner, such as Pillow Talk (1959) and Move Over, Darling (1963), respectively. She also co-starred in films with such leading men as Clark Gable, Cary Grant, David Niven, and Rod Taylor. After her final film in 1968, she went on to star in the CBS sitcom The Doris Day Show (1968–1973).
Day was usually one of the top ten singers between 1951 and 1966. As an actress, she became the biggest female film star in the early 1960s, and ranked sixth among the box office performers by 2012. In 2011, she released her 29th studio album, My Heart, which became a UK Top 10 album featuring new material. Among her awards, Day has received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and a Legend Award from the Society of Singers. In 1960, she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress, and in 1989 was given the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement in motion pictures. In 2004, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George W. Bush followed in 2011 by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association's Career Achievement Award. She was one of the last surviving stars of the Golden Age of Hollywood.
Her death was announced by her charity, the Doris Day Animal Foundation, on Monday 13th May 2019.

Doris Day Lyrics

I want to spoon
To my honey I'll croon love's tune
Honey moon, keep a-shinin' in June
Your silvery beams will bring love's dreams
We'll be cuddlin' soon
By the silvery moon
Silvery moon is shining through the trees
Cast two, me you
Summer kisses floating on the breeze
Act one, be done
Dialog where would you like to spoon?
My cue, with you
Underneath the silvery moon
By the light of the silvery moon
I wanna spoon
To my honey I'll croon love's tune
Honey moon, keep a-shinin' in June
Your silvery beams will bring love's dreams
We'll be cuddlin' soon by the silvery moon
Act two, scene new
Roses blooming all around the place
Cast three, you me
Preacher with a solemn-looking face
Choir sings, bell rings
Preacher, you are wed forever more
Act two, all though
Every night the same encore
By the light, not the dark but the light
Of the silvery moon, not the sun but the moon
I wanna spoon, not croon, but spoon
To my honey I'll croon love's tune
Honeymoon, honey moon, honey moon
Keep a-shinin' in June
Your silvery beams will bring love's dreams
We'll be cuddlin' soon (soon)

The silvery moon
"By the Light of the Silvery Moon" is a timeless love song that speaks to the desire for romantic intimacy under the moonlight. The lyrics describe a couple who want to cuddle and spoon while gazing at the silvery beams of the moon in a park. The first verse sets the stage for the romantic encounter, while the second verse fast-forwards to the future where the couple has gotten married under the same silvery moon.
In the first verse, the lyrics are very delicate and soft. The silvery moon is a representation of the couple's tender love and yearning for intimacy. The choice of words is very romantic and captures the essence of the golden age of love songs. The lyrics take the listener to a serene park at night where the moonlight is the only source of light. The singer wants to express his love to his honey and will croon love's tune. The second verse describes the next chapter of their love story, where the couple is married, surrounded by blooming roses, and the choir sings the "encore." The song's lyrics have simple but meaningful words that bring nostalgia and a feeling of love in every listener's heart.

As a 19 year old it makes me so happy that my mother introduced me to these movies as a child. When I hear all these old musicals it takes me back to when I was only a child and would watch these with my mum after school x
