Day's film career began during the latter part of the Classical Hollywood Film era with the 1948 film Romance on the High Seas, and its success sparked her twenty-year career as a motion picture actress. She starred in a series of successful films, including musicals, comedies, and dramas. She played the title role in Calamity Jane (1953), and starred in Alfred Hitchcock's The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) with James Stewart. Her most successful films were the bedroom comedies she made co-starring Rock Hudson and James Garner, such as Pillow Talk (1959) and Move Over, Darling (1963), respectively. She also co-starred in films with such leading men as Clark Gable, Cary Grant, David Niven, and Rod Taylor. After her final film in 1968, she went on to star in the CBS sitcom The Doris Day Show (1968–1973).
Day was usually one of the top ten singers between 1951 and 1966. As an actress, she became the biggest female film star in the early 1960s, and ranked sixth among the box office performers by 2012. In 2011, she released her 29th studio album, My Heart, which became a UK Top 10 album featuring new material. Among her awards, Day has received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and a Legend Award from the Society of Singers. In 1960, she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress, and in 1989 was given the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement in motion pictures. In 2004, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George W. Bush followed in 2011 by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association's Career Achievement Award. She was one of the last surviving stars of the Golden Age of Hollywood.
Her death was announced by her charity, the Doris Day Animal Foundation, on Monday 13th May 2019.

Ready Willing and Able
Doris Day Lyrics

And honey, now it's up to you
So lay your cards on the table
And tell me what you plan to do
I'm ready, able & willing
To join you in a little fun
But I won't take second billing
I've got to be your number one
I'm willing to hand you the key
And I'm able to say from the start, dear
It's never belonged to anyone else but me
Oh, I'm ready, I'm willing & able
So if you want a love, that's true
Just lay your cards on the table
'Cause honey, now it's up to you
I'm ready
Oh yes, you know I'm ready, baby
I'm able
Oh yes, you know I'm able, baby
I'm willing
Oh yes, you know I'm willing, baby
Now I've stated my condition
I've got lots of ammunition
Ready, willing & I'm able
So if you want a love that's true
Just lay your cards on the table
'Cause honey
Honey, now it's up to you
The lyrics of Doris Day's Ready Willing And Able are a declaration of love and dedication from the singer to the person she loves. The first stanza of the song lays the foundation of the song, with the singer stating that she is "ready, willing & able" to join their lover in any fun they may have planned. However, she is also clear that she won't take "second billing" and that she has to be their number one. The second stanza goes a step forward, where the singer states that she is ready to hand her heart and the key to it, to the person she loves. She is further reassured that her heart has "never belonged to anyone else but me".
The chorus repeats the singer's declaration, with her stating that she is "ready, willing & able" and now it is up to her lover to take the next step. The chorus further emphasizes her love and dedication, where she repeats the three adjectives and reassures her lover that they can have a love that is true. The last verse reiterates the singer's willingness to do anything for her lover, stating that she has "lots of ammunition" and she is "ready, willing & able" to love them with all her heart.
The song is an upbeat and positive declaration of love. It expresses the singer's readiness to be with the person she loves and her willingness to do anything for them. It also reflects the time it was written, where men were often the ones who took the lead in relationships, and the song is an assertion of the singer's agency and her importance in the relationship. Overall, Ready Willing And Able is a beautiful love song with a catchy tune and relatable lyrics.
