Day's film career began during the latter part of the Classical Hollywood Film era with the 1948 film Romance on the High Seas, and its success sparked her twenty-year career as a motion picture actress. She starred in a series of successful films, including musicals, comedies, and dramas. She played the title role in Calamity Jane (1953), and starred in Alfred Hitchcock's The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) with James Stewart. Her most successful films were the bedroom comedies she made co-starring Rock Hudson and James Garner, such as Pillow Talk (1959) and Move Over, Darling (1963), respectively. She also co-starred in films with such leading men as Clark Gable, Cary Grant, David Niven, and Rod Taylor. After her final film in 1968, she went on to star in the CBS sitcom The Doris Day Show (1968–1973).
Day was usually one of the top ten singers between 1951 and 1966. As an actress, she became the biggest female film star in the early 1960s, and ranked sixth among the box office performers by 2012. In 2011, she released her 29th studio album, My Heart, which became a UK Top 10 album featuring new material. Among her awards, Day has received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and a Legend Award from the Society of Singers. In 1960, she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress, and in 1989 was given the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement in motion pictures. In 2004, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George W. Bush followed in 2011 by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association's Career Achievement Award. She was one of the last surviving stars of the Golden Age of Hollywood.
Her death was announced by her charity, the Doris Day Animal Foundation, on Monday 13th May 2019.

Steppin' Out
Doris Day Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
It's for sure, sure and not for maybe
Don't ask when will the lucky day be
Here he comes and let him tell you himself:
If I seem to scintillate
It's because I've got a date
A date with a package of
You don't have to ask me
I won't waste your time
But if you should ask me
Why I feel sublime
I'm
Steppin' out with my baby
Can't go wrong 'cause I'm in right
It's for sure, not for maybe
That I'm all dressed up tonight
Steppin' out with my honey
Can't be bad to feel so good
Never felt quite so sunny
And I keep on knockin' wood
There'll be smooth sailin' 'cause I'm trimmin' my sails
With a bright shine on my shoes and on my nails
(alternate line: In my top hat and my white tie and my tails)
Steppin' out with my baby
Can't go wrong 'cause I'm in right
Ask me when will the day be
The big day may be tonight
The song "Steppin' Out with My Baby" by Doris Day is about a man who is excitedly getting ready to go out with his lover, whom he refers to as "baby." He assures her that he's coming to take her out, and there's no doubt that he'll be showing up. The singer, the man, appears to be on top of the world as he's going out, and he believes he won't go wrong because he's right, dressed up and ready to go. He communicates his emotional state, his excitement, and his joy, by saying he feels sublime.
The lyrics convey a sense of excitement and anticipation, but the lyrics also indicate that this joy may not last long; the man wonders whether "the big day" might be tonight, reminding readers that live for the moment as one never knows what the future will hold. The singer wants to enjoy and build memorable memories with his lover. In conclusion, the song is a representation of enjoying life as it is at the moment and making beautiful memories that could never be forgotten.
