Day's film career began during the latter part of the Classical Hollywood Film era with the 1948 film Romance on the High Seas, and its success sparked her twenty-year career as a motion picture actress. She starred in a series of successful films, including musicals, comedies, and dramas. She played the title role in Calamity Jane (1953), and starred in Alfred Hitchcock's The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) with James Stewart. Her most successful films were the bedroom comedies she made co-starring Rock Hudson and James Garner, such as Pillow Talk (1959) and Move Over, Darling (1963), respectively. She also co-starred in films with such leading men as Clark Gable, Cary Grant, David Niven, and Rod Taylor. After her final film in 1968, she went on to star in the CBS sitcom The Doris Day Show (1968–1973).
Day was usually one of the top ten singers between 1951 and 1966. As an actress, she became the biggest female film star in the early 1960s, and ranked sixth among the box office performers by 2012. In 2011, she released her 29th studio album, My Heart, which became a UK Top 10 album featuring new material. Among her awards, Day has received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and a Legend Award from the Society of Singers. In 1960, she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress, and in 1989 was given the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement in motion pictures. In 2004, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George W. Bush followed in 2011 by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association's Career Achievement Award. She was one of the last surviving stars of the Golden Age of Hollywood.
Her death was announced by her charity, the Doris Day Animal Foundation, on Monday 13th May 2019.

Tea For Two
Doris Day Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Just tea for two and two for tea
Me for you and you for me alone
Nobody near us
To see us or hear us
No friends or relations
On weekend vacations
That we own a telephone (oh, I hate telephones) (yeah, me too)
Day will break and you'll awake
And start to bake a sugar cake
For me to take
To all the boys to see
Oh, we will raise a family
A boy for you, a girl for me
Oh, can't you see
How happy we would be?
(Oh, hit me with that tag)
We will raise a family
A boy for you, six little girlies for me
Can't you see
How happy we would be?
The song "Tea for Two" by Doris Day, written by Irving Caesar and Vincent Youmans, is a romantic tune that speaks to the simplicity and intimacy of sharing a cup of tea with a loved one. The lyrics paint a picture of just two people, with no one else around, enjoying each other's company over a warm cup of tea. The scene is one of privacy and romance, where the two share an unspoken bond that is not even interrupted by the presence of a telephone. The lyrics describe a peaceful and idealistic moment in time, where the focus is solely on each other, with no distracting external forces getting in the way.
As the song progresses, the lyrics hint at the possibility of a future together, where the couple will eventually start a family. The lyrics describe a happy life where they will have a boy and a girl, and the sense of joy and contentment is palpable. The lyrics suggest that life is best when it is shared with someone special, someone who is cherished and loved. The song is a tribute to the power of human connection, and the ways in which small moments, like sharing a cup of tea, can bring two people together in an intimate and meaningful way.

Picture you upon my knee
Just tea for two
And two for tea
Just me for you
And you for me...alone
[JIMMY:]
I'm discontented with homes that I've rented
So I have invented my own.
Darling, this place is lovely oasis
Where life's weary taste is unknown
Far from the crowded city
Where flowers pretty caress the stream
Cozy to hide in, to live side by side in,
Don't let it apart in my dream
Picture you upon my knee
Just tea for two
And two for tea
Just me for you
And you for me alone
[NANETTE:]
Nobody near us to see us or hear us Mm, mm, mm,
No friends or relations Mm, mm, mm,
On weekend vacations Mm, mm, mm.
We won't have it known, dear,
That we own a telephone, dear...

And start to bake a sugar cake
For you to take for all the boys to see

I'm beyond blessed to have been raised on Doris Day's music. I was born in 1991 and my mother, who was born in 1964 raised me right.
@theOlLineRebel
Totally agree. I’m 20 years older than you but find my own age often did not have this background as my parents put on me. I thank them because I’m eclectic and love movies and music from all eras. Yes, that includes 1700s tunes!

I am so glad you can appreciate great talent and music. I was born 1942 and my mother in 1923.
