Till We Meet Again
Doris Day Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There's a song in the land of the lily
Each sweetheart has heard with a sigh
Over high garden walls this sweet echo falls
As a soldier boy whispers goodbye

Smile the while you kiss me sad adieu
When the clouds roll by I'll come to you
Then the skies will seem more blue
Down in Lover's Lane, my dearie

Wedding bells will ring so merrily
Ev'ry tear will be a memory
So wait and pray each night for me
Till we meet again

Though goodbye means the birth of a teardrop
Hello means the birth of a smile
And the smile will erase the tear blighting trace
When we meet in the after awhile

Smile the while you kiss me sad adieu
When the clouds roll by I'll come to you
Then the skies will seem more blue
Down in Lover's Lane, my dearie

Wedding bells will ring so merrily
Ev'ry tear will be a memory

So wait and pray each night for me
Till we meet again

It breaks my heart knowing that we are the last generation to have contact with these precious gems

FromHK Lee

Nay, this guy from HK did play this melody with his little blue harp to ECADHC (Gardena, Southbay,LA County)participant, Elsie (a boomer like many other ppts), suffering from Alzhermer, being spoon-fed, making movement as responding to my piece of vintage music, popular before I was born after the boomers. I still have late Elsie's photos, my hair, no silver thread among the gold, all dark.
BTW, I also took a chance to attend Elsie's funeral at her P.V. home, few & far between practice by the staff.

@Suzanne Dahl Oh, how lovely! Hopefully she remembers it and passes it to her kids, just as you!

My grandmother used to sing this song to me when I was little. I sang it to my sons, now I sing it to my 2 y.o. granddaughter. Maybe she'll remember...

Rest assured, the young people who are the old souls, who were taught good and decent things, will remember and pay homage to music like this. I credit most of my personality and knowledge to my folks and grandparents, I wouldn't be half the person I am today without them. So I for one will keep my children and legacy connected to these gems.

Heard this song several years ago and then on a Waltons rerun recently. Since then I have literally played it at least 100 times. It's so touching that it brings tears to my eyes.

I just finished watching that particular Walton episode (the prophecy) heard this sing and had to search it here on YT. Doris Day had such a nice voice.
