Day's film career began during the latter part of the Classical Hollywood Film era with the 1948 film Romance on the High Seas, and its success sparked her twenty-year career as a motion picture actress. She starred in a series of successful films, including musicals, comedies, and dramas. She played the title role in Calamity Jane (1953), and starred in Alfred Hitchcock's The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) with James Stewart. Her most successful films were the bedroom comedies she made co-starring Rock Hudson and James Garner, such as Pillow Talk (1959) and Move Over, Darling (1963), respectively. She also co-starred in films with such leading men as Clark Gable, Cary Grant, David Niven, and Rod Taylor. After her final film in 1968, she went on to star in the CBS sitcom The Doris Day Show (1968โ1973).
Day was usually one of the top ten singers between 1951 and 1966. As an actress, she became the biggest female film star in the early 1960s, and ranked sixth among the box office performers by 2012. In 2011, she released her 29th studio album, My Heart, which became a UK Top 10 album featuring new material. Among her awards, Day has received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and a Legend Award from the Society of Singers. In 1960, she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress, and in 1989 was given the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement in motion pictures. In 2004, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George W. Bush followed in 2011 by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association's Career Achievement Award. She was one of the last surviving stars of the Golden Age of Hollywood.
Her death was announced by her charity, the Doris Day Animal Foundation, on Monday 13th May 2019.

We'll Be Together Again
Doris Day Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
remember the sun has shone
Laugh, and the world will laugh with you
Cry, and you'll cry alone
No tears, no fears
Remember, there's always tomorrow
So what if we have to part
Your kiss, your smile
are memories I'll treasure forever
so try thinking with your heart
We'll be together again
Times when I know you'll be lonesome
times when I know you'll be sad
don't let temptation surround you
don't let the blues make you bad
Some day, some way
we both have a lifetime before us
for parting is not goodbye
We'll be together again
Doris Day's We'll Be Together Again is a hopeful and sentimental song about the inevitability of two people who are meant to be together. The opening lines suggest that the present moment may be dark, but that it is important to remember that the sun has shone before and will shine again. The chorus, "So what if we have to part / We'll be together again" reinforces this message of hope and resilience.
The song's melody and lyrics work together to evoke strong emotions of longing and romanticism. The lyrics tell a story of two people who are in love, but may have to part ways for some time. However, the singer assures her lover that no matter what happens, they will always find a way back to each other. The final lines of the song suggest that no matter how far apart they may be, they are still connected and will always be together.
In terms of musical style, the song is structured as a ballad with a slow, steady tempo. The melody is simple and easy to sing along to, with Day's clear and emotive voice leading the way. The arrangement consists of piano, percussion, and strings, which add to the emotional depth and texture of the song.
Overall, We'll Be Together Again is a timeless classic that speaks to the heart and soul of anyone who has ever been in love. Its message of hope and resilience is still relevant today, and it continues to be a beloved song among fans of Doris Day and classic Hollywood musicals.

This is a marvellous song sung from the heart and withย soulful meaning. It's had a profound effect on me and listening to all these wonderful performances from all these great singers including, of course, Doris Day and Frank Sinatra and the rest has made me feel as if I ought to give my own contribution and try to give of my very best. I've committed myselfย now and so I'm going to give my own interpretation of this great ballad. It's the very least I can do to honour it.
