In the song "Someone Like You" by Adele, the vocalist sings about a past lover who has moved on, and found someone else. Adele speaks of an old friend who she heard had settled down, and was married - the one who was previously the love of her life. Despite her strong feelings towards her former flame, she expresses her wishes for his happiness as she could not provide what he was looking for in a partner.
As she narrates her history with her past lover, she wonders aloud about his shyness towards her when they were close. She never thought he would hide from her, as he once showed his affection for her openly; she remembers longing for him to see how much she still feels for him.
Towards the end of the song, she seems to be at peace with the idea that she has to move on. She resigns herself to the fact that she may never find someone exactly like her past love, but still hopes for the best in their future. She leaves the song with the reminder that love can last, but it can also bring hurt.
