The lyrics of Dorsaf Hamdani's song "Zourouni" express a feeling of being forgotten or abandoned. The repetition of the word "harām" (forbidden) emphasizes the pain and sadness of being left behind. The singer pleads for those who have forgotten her to visit her at least once a year, suggesting that it is not too much to ask for a small act of remembrance.
The song highlights the fear of being forgotten in love. The line "yā khawfi min al-hawā nẓarah tarūh wa tujī bil-marrah" (Oh my fear of love, a glance that comes and goes in an instant) expresses the transient nature of love and the anxiety it brings. The singer considers being separated from her beloved as a sin, emphasizing the pain of their absence.
In the final stanza, the lyrics speak of someone who has no one to care for them throughout their life, someone who never experiences the joy of having their tears wiped away. This person is described as poor and pitiful, left to deal with their struggles alone. The repeated chorus of "harām tunsūnī bil-marrah" (forbidden, forbidden, forbidden to forget me completely) echoes the plea for remembrance and highlights the deep emotional impact of being abandoned.
Overall, "Zourouni" portrays the vulnerability and longing for connection that can arise from being forgotten or neglected in love.
