They are pioneers of the Brazilian Thrash Metal scene, being acknowledged as an influence to many other bands including Sepultura and Korzus.
The band's first work appears on the split album Ultimatum with another Rio de Janeiro-based band, Metalmorphosis, in 1984. Afterwards, Dorsal Atlântica released a string of studio albums from 1984 to 1996, before breaking up in 1997. After that they've returned ONLY to re-record their first album ANTES DO FIM renamed ANTES DO FIM, DEPOIS DO FIM in 2005. After a hiatus the band fully came back with the release of the album 2012. (self-explanatory title). As of 2018 their last album is Canudos (released by the final of 2017).
Most their lyrics is written in Portuguese. Only some of their work contains two languages (English/Portuguese), and only one album is fully in English.

Caindo no chão
Quero pauleira
Minha religião
Vida sangrenta
Pede mais violência
O pesadelo
Heavy metal
O dia sem fim
E o dia sem começo
Eletricidade
Das forças que eu respeito
The lyrics to Dorsal Atlântica's song "Heavy Metal" speak to the adrenaline-fueled rush of headbanging to the chaotic sounds of heavy metal music. The first verse describes the unbridled excitement of being unable to control one's movements and falling to the ground while craving the intense energy of the music. The chorus proudly proclaims heavy metal to be the singer's religion and celebrates its raw power.
The second verse continues with the theme of seeking violent release through music, with the lyric "vida sangrenta" (bloody life). The singer claims that even if nightmares come to life, heavy metal is powerful enough to vanquish them. The final lines of the song speak to the timelessness of heavy metal, with "o dia sem fim e o dia sem começo" (the day without end and the day without beginning) and "eletricidade das forças que eu respeito" (electricity of the forces that I respect).
Overall, the song celebrates the primal and electrifying experience of listening to heavy metal music, and elevates it to the level of a religious experience. Through its driving rhythms and powerful lyrics, "Heavy Metal" encapsulates the genre that it celebrates.
