1) The Swiss duo of Felix Haug (drums and keyboards) and Kurt Maloo (guitar and vocals), formerly part of a trio called Ping Pong, scored an international hit in 1986 with the atmospheric ballad “The Captain of Her Heart” (#16 US pop, #4 US AC, #8 UK, #17 Canada) from their debut album Blue. It would be their only substantial hit, with “Devils Ball,” the lead single from 1987 follow-up album Dou3le, stalling at #71 in the UK and failing to chart in the US. The duo split in 1989 and Haug died following a heart attack in 2004.
2) Double is the stage name for Japanese R&B singer Takako Hirasawa and previously was a duo consisting of Hirasawa and her sister, Sachiko. “Shake” was the duo’s highest charting single (#21 Japan). After the death of her sister in May 1999, Takako continued as Double and is regarded as one of the first artists to bring American-style R&B to Japan. She also portrays a sexualized image, a rarity for Japanese artists.
Prove Your Love
Double Lyrics

And I'm swimming alone in the sea
Sometimes it's like the moon has gone
And there are only the stars and me
[Chorus]
Then it's time for you to come
And prove your love to me
Please prove your love to me
Sometimes it's like the wind has gone
And it's silent and dark
Sometimes it's like the lights go out
While I'm walking through the park
[Chorus]
Sometimes it's like the fog comes up
And I don't see down to my feet
Sometimes it's like I'm joining the crowd
But I'm the only person I meet
[Chorus]
The lyrics of Double's "Prove Your Love" speak to the feeling of isolation and loneliness that can creep up in a person's life even when surrounded by others. The first verse compares the feeling to swimming alone in the sea after a boat has left, or being alone with only the stars when the moon is gone. The sense of being alone in a vast, empty space is palpable.
The chorus of the song reveals the singer's plea for love and connection, asking their partner to come and prove their love. The singer is vulnerable and in need of affirmation, stating that this is the time they need their partner the most.
The second verse deepens the sense of isolation and darkness, describing walking through a dark park with no lights or wind to guide the way. The final verse describes the feeling of being lost in a crowd, disconnected and unseen.
Overall, the song expresses the universal need for love and connection, even in the darkest and loneliest of times. It speaks to the importance of showing up and being present for the people we love, especially in their times of need.
