In 2001, doubleDrive began recording a second album with producer John Kurzweg. However, the band subsequently parted with MCA Records and the completed album remained unreleased.
After shopping the album, the band signed with Roadrunner Records and re-entered the studio in 2002 with well-known producer Michael Barbiero to remix part of the album, and to record new songs. The resulting album, Blue in the Face, was released in April 2003. This album yielded a #14 single, the song Imprint. Imprint was also featured on ESPN's Major League Baseball coverage that same year.
doubleDrive toured extensively in the US and Australia, sharing stages with bands such as Sevendust, Kid Rock, Godsmack, Our Lady Peace, Clutch, Type O Negative, Shinedown, Silverchair, Queensrÿche, Finger Eleven, Megadeth, Seether, Tesla, Stereomud, Revis, 12 Stones, Cold, and many others....
On December 3, 2003, doubleDrive played their final show at the Cotton Club in Atlanta.
Singer Donnie Hamby is now doing DVD work (including Sevendust's Southside Doublewide Acoustic Live and Next DVDs, a live Edwin McCain DVD, and many others); guitarist Troy McLawhorn now plays with Dark New Day, Evanescence, and Seether; drummer Mike Froedge now performs with Open Sky Separators, and produces bands in his Atlanta recording studio, Open Sky Studio. Mike and bassist Josh Sattler are also working on a new project with Nick Catanese from Black Label Society, and Mike Stone from Queensryche, tentatively called Speed X.

How do you match this
But I digress
You said it best
"I love that song from Mexico"
Any effort of the last ditch
Could never match this
But then pullin' the plug
And you got a dark side
With the slighest of hands
I think I understand
And I don't mind
I'm not afraid to let you know
You got a hollowbody
What does it take to fill the void
Another hollowbody
I'm not afraid to to tell you so
You got a hollowbody
What does it take to fill the void
Another hollowbody
You're spillin' out
You though the bleeding would never end
You're empty now
And emptiness is not your friend
And you're spillin' it out
You been around enough to know
Can you figure it out...you're empty now...are you empty
I'm not afraid to let you know
You got a hollowbody
What does it take to fill the void
Another hollowbody
You gonna take or lose control
Without no other body
I'm not afraid to let you know
You got a hollowbody
I thought the feeling would never go...away
In "Hollowbody," Doubledrive sings about someone who is struggling with emptiness and a sense of hollowness in their life. They begin by stating that they need to keep things moving quickly and efficiently, as they feel that slowing down is impossible. However, the singer quickly switches gears to address the person they are singing to. They say that they understand that this person has a dark side and has been hurt before. They go on to reveal that they too have been hurt before but that they are not afraid of telling this person that they have a hollow body, which they believe is causing their pain. The singer suggests that the solution to this pain is to find another "hollowbody" to fill the void that is inside them.
The chorus of the song continues to explore the idea of hollowness and emptiness. The singer asks the person they are singing to what it will take to fill the void that they feel. They suggest that perhaps they need another hollow body, but offer no clear solution to the problem. They continue to assert that they are not afraid to tell this person that they have a hollow body, and that they understand what it feels like to experience this emptiness. They end the chorus by asking the question, "are you empty?" This implies that the person they are singing to may be trying to hide their hollowness from others.
Overall, "Hollowbody" is a song that deals with difficult emotions such as emptiness, hollowness, and pain. The lyrics suggest that the best way to address these emotions may be to acknowledge them honestly and to seek out connections with others who can help fill the void.
