I still enjoy listening to Douglas Adams's own voice reading his own book. The poor audio quality and the missing chapter aren't the fault of the publisher. But they have ripped it off from another source, who ripped it off from someone else and so on. The are (or were) several versions, all of which were missing the last chapter

Well I am just loving it. Only half way through, sorry to hear about the missing last chapter. But now I have to start it from the beginning and remember who is who and what happens to him. It seems he died and now we are living with him dead. I wonder what does happen in the end. :)

I can't find the ending anywhere on YouTube audiobooks. I cannot imagine why.

The Last Remaining Moderate
What an abomination. I have never seen or heard anything as badly edited as this. The first half is bad enough with the transitions from one CD.cassette (whichever) to the next abruptly overlapping each other. But the second half with piano solos inserted in the middle of lines of text is just... just... well, words cannot describe. And then leaving off the entire last chapter (yeah, only 5 pages, but still). The phrase "gross incompetence" doesn't even come close.

My guess is that the music is there to try and avoid it getting taken down for copyright infringement
