Bad Idea
Dove Cameron Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
See your name light up my phone
You're having revelations
Wish you'd never let me go
And you say that you miss me (I'm sure that you miss me)
Funny how you think you're such a mystery
Say you gotta tell me something face-to-face
I know I shouldn't do it, but I'm gonna do it
See exactly where I shouldn't go, I'm running to it
I been trying out the high road, and I hate it
I got a lot of sins, but you're my favorite
Baby, you're a bad idea, but I could do a few more years
I got a little left in here, funny how you reappear
In the nick of time
I guess it didn't die
Can't say we didn't try
Baby, we're a bad idea
Fuck it, let's do it again
You'll pick somewhere that's private
You and I can really speak
Go ahead and tell me something
That you learned in therapy
And it's almost convincing (it's almost convincing)
But I've been known to go against my instincts
And I know you're performing, but it's working for me
We can talk about it in the morning
Baby, you're a bad idea, but I could do a few more years
I got a little left in here, funny how you reappear
In the nick of time
I guess it didn't die
Can't say we didn't try
Baby, we're a bad idea
Fuck it, let's do it again
Bottom line
We made it out the first time
Still in love and half alive
We didn't die
But no guarantees this time, we might
Alright, fuck it, let's do it again
Baby, you're a bad idea, but I could do a few more years (sh)
I got a little left in here, funny how you reappear
In the nick of time
I guess it didn't die
Can't say we didn't try
Baby, we're a bad idea
Fuck it, let's do it again
In Dove Cameron's song "Bad Idea," the lyrics depict a complicated and conflicting relationship. The singer receives a call from their former lover, who expresses a longing for their presence and reveals that they regret letting them go. The singer acknowledges the mystery behind the situation, as the former lover claims they have something important to say face-to-face. Despite knowing it's probably not a wise decision, the singer is drawn to their ex and decides to pursue the relationship yet again, even though they have been trying to take the high road and move on. The singer admits to having many flaws and sins, but the ex-lover remains their favorite, highlighting the strong emotional connection they share.
The chorus conveys the contradictory nature of the relationship. The singer recognizes that their love interest is a bad idea, but they are willing to endure it for a few more years. It is ironic how the ex enters their life again just when they needed them the most, and the singer realizes that their love hasn't truly died. Despite the difficulties they have faced in the past, they cannot deny that they have tried to make it work. The bridge reflects the resilience of their love, acknowledging that they made it out of the first round, but there are no guarantees that it will be the same the second time around. However, they decide to throw caution to the wind and give the relationship another shot, fully aware of the risks involved.
