Let Me Out
Dover Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Now the shows about to begin, and I'm the clown
With make up on make face, and the dress aside and I'm done
And the people's cheering today, but maybe tomorrow they will be gone
So now that you are here welcome to the show

don't get me wrong, I really love what I do
But sometimes it makes me feel like a fool
Somebody unlock me and just let me out
People come on and just let me out
I'm breaking throught the walls so tell me are you ready for more?
Somebody unlock me and just let me out
People come on and just let me out
I'm breaking throught the walls so tell me are you ready for more?

Now I don't have to win, I'm in control
I'll give you what you need and do what I want
Ain't no trying to bring me down, I'm moving up and I'm on top
Happy lauhing kids The circus must go un!

don't get me wrong, I really love what I do
But sometimes it makes me feel like a fool

Somebody unlock me and just let me out
People come on and just let me out
I'm breaking throught the walls so tell me are you ready for more?
Somebody unlock me and just let me out
People come on and just let me out
I'm breaking throught the walls so tell me are you ready for more?

Thank's to upon, I have my feet on the gruond
Ain't no money makes me change the way I'm playing this game
I'm still the same

don't get me wrong, I really love what I do
But sometimes it makes me feel like a fool

Somebody unlock me and just let me out
People come on and just let me out
I'm breaking throught the walls so tell me are you ready for more?
Somebody unlock me and just let me out

People come on and just let me out
I'm breaking throught the walls so tell me are you ready for more?

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Dover's song "Let Me Out" appear to be a commentary on the experience of being a performer, particularly as it pertains to the circus or theater. The first verse sets the stage, with the singer stating that they are about to begin their show, and that they feel like a clown with their makeup and costume on. They acknowledge that while the crowd may be cheering today, they may not be there tomorrow, highlighting the temporary nature of success in the entertainment industry. The chorus, which repeats throughout the song, consists of a plea to be let out of the performer's metaphorical cage or prison.

The second verse speaks to the performer's sense of agency within their work. They say that they don't have to win, because they are in control and can give the audience what they want while still doing what they want. They assert that they are "moving up and on top," and that they are happy to be providing entertainment to children. The final verse reflects on the idea that success and money can sometimes change people, but that the singer remains grounded and true to themselves.

As a whole, "Let Me Out" seems to be a statement of both frustration and pride from the perspective of a performer. While they enjoy what they do, they also feel trapped by the expectations and demands of their job, and are eager to break free from those constraints.
