Savior
Downer Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

My wallet gets thick from you fools
you pray to my hairpiece
and my luxury.
It seems you're all victims to be
run for your lives.

Could it be time that god falters?
Could it be time that I fall?
Except for the pulpit I lean on
I've no legs at all.

Faith is so blind it might hurt
and lead you to jump off the edge of the earth
it seems all you suckers would see
that I'm just a thief.

POOR MICE.
You said you would like me to stay
and lead you away from your problems
I helped create.
Who is your savior?
Who is your savior?
Who is your savior?
Who is your savior?
Who is your savior?
I am.

When life hits the bottom
you'll pray for my sympathy
I don't c are what you hoped for
you paid for salvation
your prayers unaccounted for
stupid
wasted and poor.
Who is your savior?
Who is your savior?
Who is your savior?
Who is your savior?
Who is your savior?
I am.
My wallet gets thick from you fools
you pray to my hairpiece
and my luxury.
It seems you're victims to be
run for your life.
Who is your savior?
Who is your savior?
Who is your savior?

Who is your savior?
Who is your savior?

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Downer's song Savior talk about a man who takes advantage of people's blind faith in him, claiming to be their savior while taking their money and leading them nowhere. The first stanza of the lyrics talk about how the man's wallet gets thick from people who blindly pray to him and his material possessions. He considers them all to be victims and tells them to run for their lives. The second stanza questions whether it is the time for the man to fall and whether God also falters. The only thing the man has to lean on is the pulpit, and without it, he has no legs at all. He accuses people of being blind enough to jump off the edge of the earth because of their faith in him when in reality, he is just a thief. The chorus repeatedly asks who their savior is, to which the man declares that he is.

The third stanza talks about how people would pray for the man's sympathy when life hits the bottom. He doesn't care about what they hope for, and they have paid for a salvation that he can provide, but their prayers go unaccounted for. The man calls people stupid, wasted, and poor. The last stanza repeats the chorus, emphasizing the message that people are putting their faith in the wrong person.

Overall, the lyrics in Savior are a critique of people blindly putting their faith in someone without fully understanding what they are buying into. The man in the song is taking advantage of people's vulnerability and preying on their ignorance for his own gain.

Was trying to think of this band for the longest time and finally found it digging through every nu metal album on discogs. Downer. Really a shame this isn't on spotify. I was combing through so much stuff lol. I looked up the track listing and made an album file. So happy to have rediscovered this.

@jtscott8

Singer's son here. Been a while but I think they are on Spotify now. If not, let me know and I can look into it. I just remember my dad mentioning he and I think Aaron trying to throw their music on all those apps for the hell of it.

@monstermike1244

I wish Downer would have made more Albums and Did not break up. Also why is there no Footage of Downer Ever Performing?

@snailboy

This song fits with Trump's presidency a little too well.

@bob12820

Does anyone know what happened to these guys?

@revivedfears

Their vocalist quite often replies to posts on youtube. He says they just got chewed up and dissolusioned with the music business. Roadrunner certainly didn't give them the push they could have done. Some big package tours or a track on a big movie or game would have gotten then huge exposure, just like it did for bands like ill nino and fear factory.
