… Read Full Bio ↴Downthesun is a six-piece nu metal band from Kansas City, Missouri.
The band was formed by bassist Lance "Kuk" Collier and samples operator Nathan Church who were in the band together that opened for Slipknot in mid 1999. This put them in touch with Slipknot's Shawn "Clown" Crahan. After deciding to replace their guitarist they auditioned several players, The band went through several line up and name changes before becoming Downthesun. The line up that recorded the album in June 2001 was: Lance Collier - bass, Aaron Peltz - vocals, Anthony "Satone" Stevens - Vocals, Nathan Church - Electronics & Vocals, Neil Godfrey - Guitar, Danny Spain - Drums. In 2001 the band signed to Slipknot's Maggot Recordings label.
After recording the guitar tracks for their self-titled debut, Godfrey left the band to join first Motograter, and then Lo-Pro with former Ultraspank singer Pete Murray. The band then recruited Bruce Swink to handle the guitar for the band's live shows. Although listed on the album liner notes, Swink did not play on the album. Downthesun was briefly signed to London/Sire records before the label folded, leaving the band unsigned for a brief period of time.
They were signed to Roadrunner Records and released their self-titled debut album in 2002. Before the album's release, they shot a video for the song "Medicated", which was aired on MTV2's "Extreme Rock" and Fuse's "Uranium" shows, and can be viewed on YouTube.com. Early 2003, however, saw the band, for reasons unknown, experience a mass exodus of band members, as Aaron Peltz, Satone, Danny Spain, and Bruce Swink all left the band. Kuk and Church soldiered on, however, finding replacements for the departed members, and recording a few demos and playing live shows around the midwest before calling it a day in late 2003.
In 2010 Downthesun has got back together to record new music

Downthesun Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Nothing you care about, nothing you feel
How can you live
Always on the verge of realizing yourself
[Chorus]
The master that we serve has raped our destiny
We're still enslaved we're still enslaved
We're still enslaved, we're still enslaved
Life's pain you face
Everything's set now you're told what to do
It's all you know
Spinning like a cog in a pointless machine
Seeing truth now
Nothing from the sweat that was stole from you
Cutting yourself
Looking at your wrists as the blood hits the floor
[Chorus]
Scream 'til you bleed
Looking at life though a crack in the mirror
Reflections all split as it becomes clearer
Devotions you've brought nothing to gain
With innocence lost all that's left is pain
Make it stop
[Chorus]
I'm enslaved
The lyrics to Downthesun's song "Enslaved" delve into the struggles of feeling trapped and controlled by forces outside of one's own control. The first stanza addresses the feeling of detachment and a lack of personal investment in one's own life. The second stanza touches on the feeling of being stuck in a monotonous routine and feeling powerless to change it. The third stanza talks about the unsettling realization of having been taken advantage of and the resulting self-harm that can manifest. The chorus repeats the concept of being enslaved by an unknown force, blaming a "master" figure for the oppression and pain being experienced.
Overall, the song speaks to the universal experience of feeling trapped and powerless in one's own life, whether it be due to societal pressures, a lack of control, or trauma from past experiences. The song's raw and intense lyrics paired with heavy instrumentation create a powerful and emotive piece that touches on themes of pain, loss, and the search for personal liberation.
