When I'm at the punk rock show
I don't wanna get hurt you know
So crazy kids don't slam around
In the pit, I wanna sit down
Please please please
Please don't kick me

Come on girl sit next to me
Why are you so oy oy angry?
Please don't kick me in the head
'Cause that's how teens, they end up dead

Sit sit sit
Sit in the pit
Sit sit sit
Sit in the pit
Sit sit sit
Sit in the pit
Sit sit sit
Sit in the pit
(Yeah)

When I'm at the punk rock show
I don't wanna get hurt you know
So crazy kids don't slam around
In the pit, I wanna sit down
Please please please
Please don't kick me

Come on girl sit next to me
Why are you so oy oy angry?
Please don't kick me in the head
'Cause that's how teens, they end up dead

Sit sit sit
Sit in the pit
Sit sit sit
Sit in the pit
Sit sit sit
Sit in the pit
Sit sit sit
Sit in the pit

She's the greatest
I love my girlfriend
All I want to do is hold your hand

They were teens
Now they're dead
Now they're dead teens

I don't wanna be wanna be a dead teen
I guess this is growning up

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Downtown Brown's song "Sit In The Pit" seem to be a reference to the mosh pit culture in punk rock shows. The singer talks about not wanting to get hurt at a show, which is a common sentiment for those who attend shows where moshing takes place. The lyrics also touch upon the idea of conflict and anger at these shows, with the singer asking the girl next to him why she is so angry.

The chorus of the song encourages the idea of sitting in the pit rather than participating in the moshing, which can be seen as a way of avoiding unnecessary injuries. The last verse of the song adds a somber note to the overall message, as the singer talks about dead teens and not wanting to be one himself. The line "I guess this is growing up" could be interpreted as a commentary on the maturing of the punk rock scene and its fans, who may be growing out of the aggressive moshing culture.

I saw them play this live more than 10 years ago, I must have been around 16 years old, and as soon as the song dropped, everyone in the pit stood up and demolished everyone around them, I miss this band, I miss those days in the pit... Good times, thanks for the memories gentlemen!
