Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Dr. Leonard Scott's song "Joy" are a declaration of the coming of the Lord, and an invitation for everyone to prepare their hearts to receive him. The first verse speaks of the joy that the Lord brings, and the call for the earth to receive their king. The repetition of "and heaven and nature sing" emphasizes the magnitude and universality of the joy that his coming brings.

The second verse speaks of the reign of the Savior, and how it should inspire us to praise and sing his name. The use of imagery such as fields, floods, rocks, hills, and plains shows how every part of creation is called to join in the song of praise. The repetition of "repeat the sounding joy" reflects the idea that this joy cannot be contained or sung only once, but should be shouted and sung again and again.

In the third verse, the lyrics speak of the transformation that the Lord brings, by eliminating sin and sorrow and bringing blessings that flow wherever the curse has been found. The declaration that "He rules the world with truth and grace" shows the sovereignty and power of the Lord, and how his righteousness and love bring glory and wonder to the nations.

Overall, the lyrics of "Joy" express the joy, hope, and salvation that the Lord brings, and the call for all of creation to celebrate and receive him.
