Hard Times
Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴
And rest your tired body next to mine
Nobody knows more than you
These hard times that we're living through
But baby, we'll go on and on
Lord knows, we've got each other
So kiss me, hug and love
Now son, hate must dies
With her bags of tricks, of cheats and dirty lies
Nobody smiles and nobody cries
And no one seems to care if they live or die
But baby, we'll go on and on
God knows, we've got each other
So come on, kiss me, hug and love, yes
Hard times we can get over
[Incomprehensible] bullets and guns
And the outlaw always rides in front
But baby, just you come to me
When you
need someone to set you free
These lyrics are from Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band's song "Hard Times." The song is about difficult times that people may face in their lives, but it emphasizes the importance of having someone to lean on for support during tough times. The opening lines encourage the listener to close their eyes and rest next to the singer's tired body, acknowledging that they have been through similar hardships. The chorus is optimistic, reminding the listener that they have each other and suggesting that love can help them overcome hard times.
The next verse takes a more political tone, discussing "hate" and its destructive power. The lyrics mention "bags of tricks" filled with "cheats and dirty lies," and suggest that people have become apathetic towards their own lives. Despite this bleak outlook, the chorus again emphasizes the importance of love and support, with the addition of the line "God knows, we've got each other."
The final verse touches on violence and lawlessness, with references to "bullets and guns" and "outlaws." But once again, the singer offers solace to the listener, telling them to "just come to me" when they need to be set free. The song ends with a repetition of the chorus, reinforcing the message of hope and togetherness in the face of adversity.

At a time when I was trying to figure out this thing called life.. Losing my mom at 18 an having to raise an 11month old son.. Who just stopped by my job..with more grays than his mom 😆..many many mistakes along the way.. Music helped me through it all..
Lessons learned.. Times I'd sit and listen to this and many other song during this era.. I've since become an avid jazz listener and singer.. Yes...we'll go on and on.. Hard times we will get OVER.

Pat I feel ya , I stepped out of high school in 77 without a clue and now what several jobs later it's 1980 and I'm having a son and this great music was still there like a close friend . I'm 61 now and still listen to this era because this was my lifes' music . Disco and R&B was my passion it sang of love and romance . I'm still trying to navigate through life and no one knows what's next . This was great music and I'll always listen and in a moment I'm back in high school (ha)
