Queen Of The Silver Dollar
Dr. Hook Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

She's the Queen of the Silver Dollar
And she rules this smokey kingdom
And her scepter is a wine glass
And a bar stool is her throne.
And the jesters flock around her
And fight to win her favor
And see which one will take the Queen of the Silver Dollar home.
She arrives in all her splendor
Every night at nine o'clock
And her chariot is the crosstown bus
That stops right down the block.
The old piano minstrel
Plays her song as she walks in.
And the Queen of the Silver Dollar is home again.

She's the Queen of the Silver Dollar
And she rules this smokey kingdom
And her scepter is a wine glass
And a bar stool is her throne.

And the jesters flock around her
And fight to win her favor
And see which one will take the Queen of the Silver Dollar home.

Her royal gown is a satin dress
That's stained and slightly torn;
Her sparkling jewels are rhinestones
And her shoes are scuffed and worn

From the many roads she's traveled
And the wondrous sights she's seen
I watch her and I pray, God save the Queen.

She's the Queen of the Silver Dollar
And she rules this smokey kingdom
And her sceptre is a wine glass
And a bar stool is her throne.
And the jesters flock around her
And fight to win her favor
And see which one will take the Queen of the Silver Dollar home.

The Queen of the Silver Dollar
Is not as haughty as she seems.
She was once an ordinary girl
With ordinary dreams.

'Til I found her and I won her
And I brought her to this world.
Yes I'm the one who made a queen
Of a simple country girl.

She's the Queen of the Silver Dollar
And she rules this smokey kingdom
And her sceptre is a wine glass
And a bar stool is her throne.

And the jesters flock around her

And fight to win her favor
And see which one will take the Queen of the Silver Dollar home.

For me the best song Form the dr. Hook höre schon seit 1970

@cherrylattimore99

These guys deserve so much more than they were given. One of the best bands of the era - of all time, really. They lyrics are brilliant. One of my top 10 songs of all time. In fact, when I was 5 & my parents asked me what I wanted to be for Halloween, without hesitation I announce "I want to be the Queen of the Silver Dollar" and my parents made that happen. Everybody thought I was some sort of princess & most people had no idea what I was talking about but some did! To this day I announce that this is my theme song. Thank you mom & dad for instilling in me from the earliest memory the love of great music.

@tylery85

In the early 90s my dad took me to see Dr. Hook two times as they played free at Crown Center in Kansas City. Recently I've been listening to them again and while I agree they are incredible, it wasn't until now that I realized most of their lyrics were written by Shel Silverstein, which is such a trip as I read his poetry books as a kid (as many kids have over the last few generations). Now I get to experience his adult works as an adult. I remember hearing Dr Hooks version of Freaking at the Freaker's Ball as a kid, which was dirty and wild and I loved it. Now discovering Shel's album of the same name and hearing how great a musician he was and his versions of these songs it makes me appreciate everything he has done. So cool.

@cherrylattimore99

@@tylery85 that's so cool. Knowing who Shel Silverstein was a kid I kinda shocked my teacher when we started reading 'where the sidewalk ends' in class when I told him he was part of Dr Hook <the teacher was on the young side so knew who Dr Hook was, but was shocked that I knew, lol> Such a great mind. When it came time for me to be a parent I made sure to pass along not just the kid friendly poetry but his poems set to music by playing Dr Hook
