This helped me alot Thank you ☺️ I like some colors in Cotman and some in professional. Professional would be burnt umber and Payne’s gray also like cotman payne’s gray Also when paint animals some under tone are more red and some more browns I like both burnt umber.
Love to learn more about pigments

@ClarkFineArt

Glad it helped!

This was so interesting where I live windsor and newton are the most affordable range. I started out with cotman and slowly built up the professional range. Both have their uses, and some of the cotman colours are beautiful, but having been using the professional range for a while now I can honestly say thwt tye professional range go sooo much further and last sooo much longer. The difference in price here is about 25% more for the pro range so not much difference. Also when you blend down with water the professional range seems to go on alot further. There are some cotman that seem shiny/chalky in the mass tone.

@ClarkFineArt

That is great info to know that over time the pro line will last you longer than the cotman with a higher pigment load I suspected that would be the case but having not used either long enough, it wasn’t something I could personally speak to, but great to hear and I would love to hear others who have used both comment if that has been their experience as well, it could certainly help someone decide if the upgrade is worth it. If it’s only 25% more cost but it might lasts twice as long, then the professional line could actually be the better value all around. Thanks for sharing!

Cotman Cerulean is very close to artists Cerulean. Winsor Blue (green shade) and winsor blue (red shade) both artist colours look very different and nothing like Cerulean! Comparing apples and pears.
Please compare artists permanent aluzarin criminal with the same Cotman hue version.they look the same. I have yet to try pr179 compared but I have both in pr206. Pr83 is brighter and supposed to be more fugitive in sunlight, but it lasts well over a year!

@ClarkFineArt

I am waiting on the permanent alizarin crimson and we will definitely look at the colors again. You are correct actual Cerulean and phthalo blue (Winsor Blue) blue shade and green shade are all quite different. The colors currently with PR179 are changing to PR206 soon according to Winsor and Newton’s website.
