I love the small attention to details in this video:
The “go listen to SFTW (sorry for the weight) podcast” in the eye chart (also, excellent title for the podcast - that’s clever and I love puns), the small smirk that your mom makes after receiving the awards and compliments, the fact that Strawberry is holding a roast while saying “it’s a great roast” is hilarious…. all of these are so great and funny 😂😂😂

I say the doctor was a smart guy. There is no excuse to have obese children other then a medical condition you have no control over. They aren’t cooking for themselves so your deliberately or maybe accidentally giving them too much food them.

Maybe so, but a large part of BMI is the fact it was a general population test made by a mathematician to find his ideal (white, female) body type. When a kid is already eating healthy and/or missing meals and over the BMI, into "obese" with no health issues, who goes out and exercises and plays, then the issue isn't with the kid or the parents. ESPECIALLY when a lot of Doctors ignore severe medical issues like Asthma, cysts, clinical pain ect. because someone suffering from those conditions is overweight.

Agreed. People like to complain about the BMI but it gets skewed at extreme ends of the bell curve (super morbid obesity, bodybuilding, people who are very very petite, etc.) and is a good general indicator when you're closer to...average. Which, statistically, people tend to be.

But also, the people contradicting you are the ones who brought in BMI and then threw out medical info with no backing (doctors IGNORE medical issues when people are overweight? Where's the evidence of that? Comprehensive treatment plans may INCLUDE weight loss; that's very far from ignoring the medical issue, just because part of the treatment feels personal).

Pediatrics is a field with some of the most passionate providers and they take their stats, charts, and info very seriously. We have lots of good info on healthy and unhealthy childhood metrics and if a doctor says a kid is on a bad track, believe them and adjust. "They're just big-boned"-- ma'am, this isn't the first child your pediatrician has ever seen. Help them help you help your freaking kid.
