God it's so crazy to look at this show again after so much time. This was my least favorite of the BBC movies but Puddleglum stood out. It wasn't until recently that I realized he's The Doctor. Absolutely fantastic! Even if the affects are decidedly less so ;)

I absolutely Love Tom Baker as Puddleglum:The Marshwiggle. The Silver Chair is My Number One Favorite movie because of Tom Baker and He is my Favorite Doctor Who. His multi-colored scarf is Absolutely COOL. Forget bowties.

I mean, the 4th Doctor is obviously the best. The 11th is the next in line. Moffat's era is the closest we've had to a merger of Narnia and Doctor Who since The BBC's Silver Chair.

We must have seen these adaptations a million times when we were kids. Sure, the special effect haven't aged well, but the acting is absolutely top notch. That evil queen still freaks me out to this day.

This is my favorite of the 7 "Narnia" books. And Puddleglum is one of the reasons. I also love the progression of Eustace. I love how he starts out as a spoiled brat in the 3rd book, and then he redeems himself to the point where he has the endurance to go down to hell and help save the son of Caspian.

I always thought that Puddleglum looked and sounded an awful lot like my Grandfather on my mother's side. I once told him this an I don't know to this day whether he was amused, befuddled, or flattered.

Oh great, more Dr. Who. I suppose sometime I'll have to watch this series everyone seems to be so obsessed with. That said, this is one of my favorite moments in the whole series. Puddleglum's creed is my creed as well. I'm on Jesus' side even if there's no Jesus to lead it! I'm going to live as like a citizen of heaven as I can even if there is no heaven!

I was wondering how Puddleglum changed the fire back to normal, then I remembered, "He's the Doctor! His body is designed to channel and direct energy. He must have absorbed the fire, therefore dampening the spell she cast on it." Watching this scene alone feels like a Doctor Who episode.

No, that was Aslan's power, the same power that transformed the shield. Actually, in the book, Puddleglum stamped out the firse with his foot, and it had to heal naturally.

I understand that they were economizing by having Barbara Kellerman play Jadis, the Hag, and the Green Lady, but she really was miscast as the latter. When reading "The Silver Chair," I got the image of a sweet-faced, surprisingly young-looking character who looked as if butter wouldn't melt in her mouth, and of a very gentle demeanor with a lilting, girlish voice.

I think some people think that the Green Lady is also the White Witch just in different form (you can see that on Wiki) but I don't really think so and I agree they should be differently cast

It's a scene from the original Chronicles of Narnia serials that the BBC ran from 1988 to 1990. This is the 3rd and last of the series, "The Silver Chair". The other 2 parts were "The Lion the Witch & the Wardrobe" and "Prince Caspian/ Voyage of the Dawn Treader". By 80s - 90s children's programing standards it was pretty good. It was even nominated for an Emmy in the "Best Children's Programing" category.

Didn't even realize that Tom Baker was in this. When I saw it originally I hadn't even heard of Doctor Who. I also can't help but notice the contrast between Tom Baker's "theatrical" acting and the Queen's OVERacting. It's like Tom goes right to the brink and she goes straight overboard.

Actually, it's a Christian apologetic. Lewis' point in this is that atheism is a fruitless worldview, and that if atheism were true it would be better to at least pretend that there is God and a purpose for our lives because we'd go on existentially fulfilled and die none-the-wiser, whereas with atheism we "discover the truth" (allegedly) and only gain meaninglessness for it.

In the book, he used his foot to stamp the fire out, thus ceasing the fumes. I don't know what they were trying to achieve here.

So when they make the new version of SC, which Doctor should play Puddleglum? :D I think Eccleston could pull it off. I don't think Tennant would suit the role. Tennant's better at playing bipolar characters, and Puddleglum's not bipolar. Matt Smith will probably be available by that time. He might make a good marshwiggle.

Me neither, and I had all the the BBC Narnia movies on VHS when I was a kid and watched them quite frequently. I've also been into Classic Doctor Who for the past six years, I really can't believe I didn't notice this sooner.
