"Lust for Life"
Drake Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm tryna do it all tonight, I got plans
I got a certain lust for life, and as it stands
Everything is going as right as it can
They tryna shoot down my flight, before it lands

Before it lands, but you could miss me with all that
Diss me, then crawl back
I really wish y'all would fall back
But gettin' rich supposed to solve that
And these days women make offers
And who the hell am I to say no, no, no?
My ex send late night texts
'Cause she don't know how to let go, go, go
Uh, she in love
And as for them pretty light-skinned models
Standin' in the cold, ah, yeah, they with us
Let them girls in for a drink and I'm all in they ear
Saying she should be the one I see every time that I'm here
But when am I really even here?

Black Surburban with the tint on it
Fresher than a pillow with a mint on it
The game got these old handprints on it
But I'ma be the one to pour cement on it
Uh, and start over
And show up in a Margiela tux, I don't really give a fuck
And we only gettin' older
So what I tend to do is to think of today as the past
It's funny when you comin' in first, but you hope that you last
You just hope that it last

Throw your ones up in the air
Throw your ones up in the air for her, oh

Throw your ones up, in the air
Throw your ones up

Overall Meaning

In "Lust for Life", Drake is excited to live his life to the fullest and fulfill his desires. He feels invincible, and his life is currently going smoothly. However, he is aware that there are people who are trying to bring him down, which he considers unnecessary. He then talks about his experiences with women, including his ex who cannot let go of him, and the models who are standing in the cold, with him. He is constantly getting women's offers, and he does not turn them down. Drake then changes the subject and talks about how he wants to make his mark in the rap game. He is ready to start over, pour cement on the game, and make it his own. He does not care about anyone else's opinions of him, and he is willing to dress the way he wants. He believes that he is only getting older, so he thinks of today as the past and focuses on living in the present. The song ends with Drake asking his audience to celebrate with him by throwing their money in the air for the one they love.

There is definitely a certain level of ecstasy associated with this. I know what u mean about specific time and place. For me it was 2011. The whole fuckin was my golden age. I had brand new mustang GT, in shape, money, women, just coming back from deployment, me and my boys were drinking err day since we were on half days. lol damn. I dont know if this will make sense but my heart now can feel the moment I was in back then

@nombreespablo

I was broke as fuck in my senior year when I heard this. lol. I didnā€™t expect to come back to it 8 years later. I miss those days when life was stressful but songs like this brought me to a place in my subconscious that was calm and chill.

@damnbeezy7136

Crazy how certain songs could bring you back to certain times in your life, and you can sit and reflect deeply in the past, I'm a ninety three baby so this came around highschool days, but damn yo this song reminds me of a girl I use to talk to back in the day, shits crazy, just vibing, 2am, can't sleep scrolling through my phone in the dark type of nights
