Girl Next Door
Drake Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

She may not be Marilyn Monroe
And she may not be the cutest girl I know
It's how she makes me feel not how she looks
One smile from her heart
That's all it took

The girl next door is not the girl next door
The girl next door is not the girl next door
The girl next door is not the girl next door
She's the girl I'd stay home for

If I had the courage I'd ring her bell
But if she answered what story would I tell
My window's become her picture frame
But this painting doesn't even have a name

The girl next door is not the girl next door
The girl next door is not the girl next door
The girl next door is not the girl next door
She's the girl I'd stay home for

She doesn't know that I'm breathing
She doesn't know that I'm alive
She doesn't know what I'm dreaming
When I see that she's turned out her lights
And does she see me like I see her
More than just the boy next door
More than just the boy next door

The girl next door is not the girl next door
The girl next door is not the girl next door
The girl next door is not the girl next door

The girl next door is not the girl next door
She doesn't know that I'm alive

Overall Meaning

In Drake Bell's "Girl Next Door," he sings about his feelings for a girl who doesn't necessarily fit the standard of beauty, but who still makes him feel something special. He seems to admire her heart and the way she makes him feel more than her physical appearance. He sings that he daydreams about approaching her, but he's unsure of what he would say if she answered the door. He adds that he often looks at her through the window, as if she were a work of art that he can't stop staring at.

The most interesting part of this song is its message about the importance of inner beauty and how it's often overlooked by society's standards of physical beauty. Bell seems to be acknowledging that the girl next door may not have the potential to be a superstar, but that her heart is what really matters in the end. The repetition of the phrase "the girl next door is not the girl next door" seems to emphasize this point, as if the world needs to be reminded that women should not be objectified or reduced to mere physical appearances. Bell is also expressing a common theme of teenage crushes on a girl who might not even know he exists, and the mixture of longing and admiration that can result from these feelings.

Overall, Drake Bell's "Girl Next Door" is a poignant reminder that inner beauty matters more than outer beauty, and that the heart is what makes a person truly attractive. By admiring the girl next door for her character and personality, Bell is sending a message to his listeners that looks aren't everything and that we should all strive to see the inner beauty in others.

For sure. He went through literally hell. No wonder why he went to Mexico. However, with the docuseries coming out and him sharing his story, I pray that America gives him a second chance. People can be very forgiving and embrace you. Look at Robert Downey Jr. I firmly believe that Drake Bel will have one of the greatest comebacks in entertainment history. God bless!!! 🙏❤️🙏
