HYFR
Drake Lyrics

Gotta do what I gotta do
Yeah

Uh, all my exes live in Texas like I'm George Strait
Or they go to Georgia State where, tuition is handled
By some random nigga that live in Atlanta
That she only see when she feels obligated
Admitted it to me the first time we dated
But she was no angel, and we never waited
I took her for sushi, she wanted to fuck
So we took it to go, told them don't even plate it
And we never talk too much after I blew up
Just only "hello" or a "happy belated"
And I think I text her and told her I made it
And that's when she text me and told me she prayed it
And that's when I text her and told her I love her
Then right after texted and told her I'm faded
She asked what have I learned since getting richer
I learned working with the negatives
Could make for better pictures
I learned Hennessy and enemies is one hell of a mixture
Even though it's fucked up, girl I'm still fucking with ya
Damn, is it the fall, time for me to revisit the past
It's women to call, there's albums to drop
There's liquor involved
There's stories to tell, we been through it all, damn
Interviews are like confessions
Get the fuck up out my dressing room, confusing me with questions like

Do you love this shit? Are you high right now?
Do you ever get nervous?
Are you single? I heard you fucked your girl, is it true?
You getting money?
You think them niggas you with is with you?
And I say hell yeah, hell yeah, hell yeah
Fuckin' right, fuckin' right, alright
And we say hell yeah, hell yeah, hell yeah
Fuckin' right, fuckin' right, alright

Uh, so much for being optimistic
They say love is in the air, so I
Hold my breath until my face turn purple
Keep a few bad bitches in my circle
My nuts hang like ain't no curfew
Bitch, if you wave, then I will surf you
I flew jet, she flew commercial
But we still met later that night
After my session, she came over
I was aggressive and she was sober
I gave her a pill, she started confessing
And started undressing and ask me to hold her
And so I did, but that was last month
And now she's texting me asking for closure
Damn, she say this shit gon' catch up to me
I keep tissue paper
We eat each other whenever we at the dinner table
She say she hate that she love me
And she wish I was average
Shit, sometimes I wish the same
And I wish she wasn't married
Promises, I hope I never break 'em
Met a female dragon, had a fire conversation
But, interviews are like confessions
Get the fuck up out my bedroom
Confusing me with questions like

Do you love this shit? Are you high right now?
Do you ever get nervous?
Are you single? I heard you fucked your girl, is it true?
You getting money?
You think them niggas you with is with you?
And I say hell yeah, hell yeah, hell yeah
Fuckin' right, fuckin' right, alright
And we say hell yeah, hell yeah, hell yeah
Fuckin' right, damn right, alright
And we say hell yeah, hell yeah, hell yeah
Fuckin' right, fuckin' right, alright
And we say hell yeah, hell yeah, hell yeah
Fuckin' right, damn right, alright, oh yeah

Overall Meaning

In "HYFR", Drake reflects on his past relationships, particularly with an ex-girlfriend from Atlanta. He describes how she only sees a man in Atlanta who handles her tuition when she feels obligated to do so. He admits that she was not an angel, and they never waited for anything. They had sushi and then had sex in his car before going their separate ways. Drake reveals that they don't speak much after his fame arrived, only sending the occasional hello or happy belated message. Later, he texted her that he made it, and she replied she prayed for it. He texts her that he loves her, then that he's faded. She asks what he learned since he got richer, and he tells her that working with the negatives makes for better images. He also admits that Hennessy and enemies are a dangerous combination. Despite everything, he's still messing with her. Therefore, this song is a homage to the city of Houston in Texas, despite many of the lyrics being focused on other Southern cities.

There's stories to tell, we been through it all Interviews are like confessions Get the fuck up out my dressing room, confusing me with questions like
I have plenty of tales to share about the events that transpired in the past. Interviews can be like therapy sessions, causing me to reveal more than I intended. Please leave my dressing room and stop asking me confusing or pressuring questions, such as:

Do you love this shit? Are you high right now? Do you ever get nervous? Are you single? I heard you fucked your girl, is it true? You getting money? You think them niggas you with is with you?
Some of the intrusive questions that interviewers ask me include: Do you love what you do? Are you currently intoxicated? Do you ever experience anxiety? Are you currently in a relationship? Is it true that you had sex with your significant other? Are you making a lot of money? Do you believe that the people around you are loyal?

And I say hell yeah, hell yeah, hell yeah Fuckin' right, fuckin' right, alright And we say hell yeah, hell yeah, hell yeah Fuckin' right, fuckin' right, alright
My response to these intrusive questions is to confidently assert that it's true, or that my situation is ideal, saying things like 'Hell yeah' or 'Fuckin' right'.

She came over after a music session, and I pursued her aggressively, while she remained sober. I gave her a substance (likely an intoxicating one), which caused her to confess her secrets and eventually undress. She asked me to hold her.

And so I did, but that was last month And now she's texting me asking for closure Damn, she say this shit gon' catch up to me I keep tissue paper
I complied with her request for comfort, but that was over a month ago. Now, she's texting me and asking for closure. I am prepared for any potential negative consequences or complications, such as her revealing our interactions to others or causing a public scandal.

We eat each other whenever we at the dinner table She say she hate that she love me And she wish I was average Shit, sometimes I wish the same And I wish she wasn't married
Our relationship is intense and competitive, like we are trying to consume each other, even during meals. She admits that she hates that she has feelings for me, and wishes that I was less successful or less attractive. Sometimes I feel the same, and I wish that she wasn't already married.

Promises, I hope I never break 'em Met a female dragon, had a fire conversation But, interviews are like confessions Get the fuck up out my bedroom

I was 14 years old when this song came out. I always told myself that when I buy my car, I'm going to play this song at the dealership. I did that today. πŸ˜€
