Teach U A Lesson
Drake Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Me and you so crucial baby
And that champagne so fuchsia baby
I do things that you ain't use to baby
And take you back home to St. Lucia baby
When raindrops hit the tan roof its crazy
That's a metaphor, did I lose ya baby?
When you are wet and covered in sweat
I'll wipe ya ass down like Boosie baby
I love all my feedback
Tell me to give it to ya if you need that
Touch right there, whatever the speeds at
If it's over fast then I promise you will relapse
Forget what you guess that I'm on and who is in your past
I'm refreshing and grown
Just charge that cell that I message you on
And if you lets us girl, I'mma bring the dressing along
You hear that professional tone?
Half of that's ice and the rest is Patron
Show up on time for the class I'm teaching
'Cause guaranteed I'mma bring a lesson along
And you just gotta bring the breastes along
Instead of holding out wondering what it coulda been
I confess this address to you
And I'm the post man looking for a slot I can put it in
With no New York number mom still upstairs
I'm two floors under but my room's sound proof
You so tempted to satisfy your urge so you don't wonder
Yeah
I know I told you before I'll grab that for ya like holding a door
'Cause mines it Polo and yours is Vickie
And they just spread all over the floor like

You feel so good
You smell so good
You feel so warm
Just like I knew you would
Can't let you go
Can't let you go
I can't let you go

You were late to school
I gonna have to see you after class
You've been a bad girl
Some's gonna have to teach you a lesson
You're a bad girl
Someone's gonna have to straighten you up

You've been a bad girl
Someone's gonna have to teach ya

Overall Meaning

In Drake feat. Robin Thicke's song "Teach U A Lesson," Drake starts with "Me and you so crucial baby/And that champagne so fuchsia baby." He lets his girl know that they are essential to each other and that their bond is significant, and to celebrate that, he proposes to make a toast with a champagne of a unique color. He emphasizes that he would do things for her that she's not accustomed to, and then take her back home to St. Lucia, a Caribbean island, which could refer to a romantic getaway. Drake creates a metaphor of raindrops hitting a tin roof, which could signify that the love they share is intense and can be overwhelming. He then asks her if he lost her, saying that they could go to any grown-up and sensual levels if she's comfortable with it. He promises that if it's over soon, she'll start to long for more.

Drake then takes a more explicit approach, asking if she needs him to touch here, whatever her speed is, and if the venture is over briskly, he guarantees that she'll come back for more. He encourages her to forget her past and focus on them, telling her that he's mature and refreshing. He gives directions on how to contact him and assures her that he'll bring the "dressing" with him, which could refer to either alcohol or clothes. He concludes with saying that he's always ready to teach, and she needs to give him the chance; otherwise, it would be something she'll regret and wonder where it could have led to.

The chorus of "Teach U A Lesson" gives a glimpse of Drake's infatuation and praises the girl's qualities in every possible way. He's unable to let her go and wants to make her his only focus. In the second verse, Drake compares the girl to a naughty student who is late to school and needs to be taught a lesson. He warns her that he would have to discipline her, but he would do it with care and affection. He ends the verse by saying that it is hard to resist her charm and urges her to act on her feelings.
