Through the Mirror
Dreadful Shadows Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Forgotten people in the streets
Lonely eyes in the darkness
I wish you could find me
I think you won't me

Screaming words at the churchyard
The echoes fade away
I think you won't hear it
I wish you could hear this

If you want to find me,
Look for me at the other side of the mirror

See me sitting here
Waiting for the day to come
I'll come through the mirror
To be with you

Ask me boring questions
I'll answer you, but you won't hear me

Tell me stupid stories,
I'll listen to you but I'm to far away

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Dreadful Shadows's song Through the Mirror seem to express a sense of loneliness and disconnection from society. The first two lines paint a bleak picture of forgotten people in the streets, conveying a sense of isolation and neglect. The singer expresses a desire to be found by these individuals, to connect with them, but acknowledges a feeling of being unreachable. This is reiterated in the next two lines, where the singer screams into the void of the churchyard, recognizing that their words will not be heard despite the echoes fading away. The repeated use of "I wish you could" and "I think you won't" highlights the the singer's bleak outlook on their chances of being understood.

The second half of the song takes on a more hopeful tone, with the singer offering a solution to their isolation. They urge the listener to "Look for me at the other side of the mirror", suggesting that they exist in a parallel world where they can be found. The line "See me sitting here/Waiting for the day to come" is a direct plea to the listener to find them, to follow them through this barrier to connection. The final lines express a willingness to communicate with others, to answer questions and listen to stories, but once again emphasize that the singer feels too far away to be truly reachable.

Overall, Through the Mirror is a poignant exploration of isolation and the desire for connection, offering a glimmer of hope for those who feel disconnected.

Excellent. That strumming at the chorus of the song reminds me of the "windstorm" strumming that Al Di Meola uses in the song "Maraba". Look it up. And I've always loved this song since I was 10... 16 years ago.
