Four musicians from up North have come together in Los Angeles to form a band and share a dream. Canadians Doug Heffernan and Dan Nelles joined Oregonians Steve Giles and Paul Calder in the summer of 2003, and soon they had started writing and recording their own brand of powerful, hook-driven, modern rock music. By the early summer of 2004 their self-produced debut record Closest Line Theory was complete and ready for release. The dream had begun.
LIFE
Before the pieces were all in place, various members had crossed paths and worked together on previous projects. Doug (vocals and guitars) and Steve (bass and backing vocals) had been writing together for a while and had landed a record deal with major distribution in the late 90’s. When the label mishandled it’s financial backing and collapsed just two weeks after the bands record was released, everything fell apart. But the two held strong, worked up some new material and started all over again. When the time came to put together a new band, they realized they needed a 2nd guitarist to fill out their sound. Both had worked with Paul before and knew that he would be a perfect fit. In addition to locking in musically, Paul’s role as producer and engineer were also extremely key when the time came to record the bands debut record. As a world-class editor for prime time television and feature films, his digital editing skills were critical in capturing the definitive sound of DLM in the studio. The last piece of the puzzle was finding the right drummer. After jamming with several of LA’s best players, they finally came across Toronto import Dan Nelles and everything clicked. The chemistry between the four of them was immediate and with the lineup complete the music came roaring to life.
MISERY
Fully prepared for the long, grueling haul to the top, DLM has dedicated themselves to putting in the hard work it takes to achieve the success on their own terms. With the recording of Closest Line Theory complete, they are now prepared to take their huge, radio-friendly sound to the stages of Southern California and beyond. Their immediate sights are set on various regional markets along the West Coast from San Diego all the way up to Vancouver. “Everyone has miseries in their life,” says Heffernan. “we’ve taken any misery that may have come across our path, learned from it, and turned it into experience. This band is ready for anything.”

You had it already
I got nothing except a couple of words
About wasted youth
It′s been a long time since anyone talked to you
Make it rain, let it fall over everything
And wash away the worries of the world
Help me dream tomorrow in today
Wash away, the time slips away
Won't you make it rain?
Make it rain
I got nothing to lose
I have it already lost
I got nothing but that′s about how I get
Through and getting through
It's been a long time since I don't walk
I wanna do, make it rain
Let it fall over everything
And wash away the worries of the world
The center holds the dreams of what we were
Help me dream tomorrow in today
Wash away, the time slips away
Won′t you make it rain?
Make it rain
And all of millions and mistakes
And everything that we felt to break
And all that′s useless, let it fall
From the world and drown it all
Make it rain
Make it rain
Let it fall over everything
And wash away the worries of the world
The center holds the dreams of what we were
Help me dream tomorrow in today
Wash away, the time slips away
Wash away the worries of the world
The center holds the dreams of what we were
Help me dream tomorrow in today
Wash away, the time slips away
Won't you make it rain?
Won′t you make it rain?
Won't you make it rain?
Make it rain
The lyrics to Dream Life Misery's song "Make It Rain" reflect feelings of hopelessness and a longing for change. The singer feels like they have nothing left to say or lose, and that they have already lost everything. The line "It's been a long time since anyone talked to you" suggests a feeling of isolation and loneliness. The repetition of the phrase "make it rain" throughout the song can be seen as a metaphor for washing away the problems of the world and starting anew.
The chorus of the song emphasizes the idea of washing away worries and dreaming for a better future. The line "the center holds the dreams of what we were" suggests a longing for a time when things were better or simpler. The singer asks for help to "dream tomorrow in today," indicating a desire for change in the present.
Overall, "Make It Rain" is a song that speaks to the struggle of feeling helpless and lost, but also holds onto the hope of a better future.
