Drugs
Dreamers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Lost in the clouds.
Coming down,
searching for the next high.
Kids in the dirt,
scavengers hungry for a good time.

And it's just so easy
We do it for the drugs,
we can never get enough.
I've given up on love,
we do it 'cause we're young.
And we're gonna get higher, and higher, and higher.
We're gonna get higher, and higher, and higher.
We're gonna get

more, 'cause it's cheap.
'Cause we're sheep,
looking for the rad life.
Fast, want it now.
Don't wanna think for ourself,
we're just millenials.

We do it for the drugs,
we can never get enough.
I've given up on love,
we do it 'cause we're young.
And we're gonna get higher, and higher, and higher.
We're gonna get higher, and higher, and higher.
We're gonna get high.

I don't wanna come down
I don't wanna calm down
We're gonna get
We're gonna get
We're gonna get high

We do it for the drugs,
we can never get enough.
I've given up on love,
we do it 'cause we're young.
And we're gonna get higher, and higher, and higher.

We're gonna get higher, and higher, and higher.
We're gonna get.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Dreamers's song "DRUGS" paint a vivid picture of the reckless abandon and carefree nature that comes with drug use. The opening lines, "Lost in the clouds, coming down, searching for the next high," set the tone for the rest of the song. The reference to being "lost in the clouds" can be interpreted as being overcome with a drug-induced euphoria or disconnecting from reality. The rest of the chorus solidifies this idea, with the line "We do it for the drugs, we can never get enough."

The second verse further highlights the lack of thought or responsibility that comes with drug use. The line "Fast, want it now, don't wanna think for ourselves, we're just millennials" speaks to the instant gratification and lack of accountability that is often attributed to the younger generation. The idea of being "sheep" and looking for the "rad life" also portrays a desire to fit in and be part of a specific subculture.

The song seems to ultimately convey a sense of hopelessness and resignation to the cycle of drug use. The lines "I've given up on love, we do it 'cause we're young" suggest a lack of fulfillment in other aspects of life and a reliance on drugs as a source of pleasure or escape. The repeated chorus of "we're gonna get higher, and higher, and higher" emphasizes the never-ending desire for more and the inability to break free from the cycle.

nice context for the song: “DRUGS is a song about our addiction to technology. Phones, social
media, likes, favorites and follows -- they are the fix of our time.
Like drugs, it can make our lives feel enriched and good for a while,
but can also be destructive and cyclical. At shows, it's often a sea of
phones capturing the moment, but at what cost? Do we miss the moment
while we attempt to capture and share it to garner likes, favorites,
follows, etc to boost our esteem? Sometimes I feel like we are missing
out on genuine opportunities to genuinely connect with people, and
experience the physical world. And I'm not passing blame, I do it too. I
never want to be the singer yelling at the crowd to put their phones
down while "I" perform, but if I ever did, it would be out of my true
desire to be connect to those around me and to celebrate together in the
moment.

We filmed the video in LA over two days, driving out
to the freezing desert, dancing, and smashing phones with guitars.
Directed by the incredible Frank Young, it's a video about being hooked,
dazed, and ultimately breaking free, getting higher and higher onto the
next great plateau.” - Nick Wold, lead singer / guitarist in DREAMERS

+Zamu Teai knew, there had to be more to the song than what was on the
surface, hence why i ended up clicking on the add :). it's so true
though, we've become social media zombies (and dependent on drugs and alcohol and whatever else we use to fill the void) and it's not healthy. -to
living in the moment! and experiencing the moment in the moment! it's okay to feel pain, makes the great moments of life even better!
