On the rebound
Perfect is how it started out with us
Finally a girl that I could trust
With beauty, brains, knows how to laugh
She's just perfect, and when I look into your eyes
Felt like the luckiest man alive
I was what you used to keep your mind off someone else
And either way I lose when you put me on the shelf
So don't lead me on if you're not gonna stay around
I don't wanna be the one if you're on the rebound, rebound
I can't be with you no matter how good it sounds
I don't wanna be a fool if you're on the rebound, rebound
Listen, I'm really falling hard for you
But you're in love with two
Can't have your cake and eat it too
So listen, I don't want this thing to end
But if you've got a special friend
You keep running back to him, so understand
I'm not that guy to pretend to live a lie
Tell me what it is you want
If it's not me then say goodbye
So don't lead me on if you're not gonna stay around
I don't wanna be the one if you're on the rebound, rebound
I can't be with you no matter how good it sounds
I don't wanna be a fool if you're on the rebound, rebound
In Drew Seeley's song Rebound, he describes a relationship that started out perfectly but turned out to be on the rebound. He recalls how he thought he had found the perfect girl - someone he could trust, who was beautiful, smart, and made him feel like the luckiest man alive. However, it all falls apart when he discovers that he was just a rebound, someone she used to keep her mind off someone else. Drew then expresses his frustration and disappointment by telling her that he doesn't want to be led on or become a fool if she's not over her ex.
The lyrics highlight the struggle of being with someone who still has feelings for someone else. Drew describes his feelings for her as falling hard, but he acknowledges that she's in love with two people and can't have her cake and eat it too. He clearly expresses his desire for honesty and that he's not the type to pretend to live a lie. The song, therefore, showcases the complexity of relationships and the importance of being truthful and respectful to oneself and their partners.
