Signing to Island Records through Haqq Islam's University Records imprint, the group released two successful albums, Dru Hill and Enter the Dru, before separating for a period from late 1999 to 2002, during which time SisqΓ³ and Woody released solo albums. While Woody's Soul Music LP was a moderate success in the gospel music industry, SisqΓ³'s debut album, Unleash the Dragon, and its hit singles, "Thong Song" and "Incomplete", were major pop successes, and established SisqΓ³ as a household name outside Dru Hill. SisqΓ³'s second album, Return of Dragon, did not sell as well.
In 2002, by then part of the Def Soul record label, the group reunited and added fifth member Rufus "Scola" Waller to the lineup for their third album, Dru World Order, whose underperformance led to the group being dropped from Def Soul. In 2009, the group signed to Kedar Entertainment Group and released their fourth album, InDRUpendence Day, the following year, with new member Tao taking the place of the again departed Woody.
I Should Be...

I see it in your face
And I know that's not the man that you really want
You know
So if you see me talkin'
Just come see me
I'm a better man any way
I know you feel this with your man
'Cause within all I see is crying
I should be your boyfriend
(I should be your boyfriend)
?Cause you know he's lyin'
(?Cause you know he's lyin')
It might seem like I'm hating
(Might seem like I'mhating)
But girl, I'm just relating
Step one, walk through that door
Step two, tell him
He's not like he was before
You don't love him anymore
Round three, come to me
Step four, I'll love you more
You will see how love should be
But there's more steps to complete
Remember the time
When he tried to be the one
Who would give all you deserved
Now he's not trying
I should be your boyfriend
(I should be your boyfriend)
'Cause you know he's lyin'
('Cause you know he's lyin')
It might seem like I'm hating
(Might seem like I'mhating)
But girl, I'm just relating, take step one
Step one, walk through that door
Step two, tell him
He's not like he was before
You don't love him anymore
Round three, come to me
Step four, I'll love you more
You will see how love should be
But there's more steps to complete
You're what I'm lookin' for
Our love can mean much more
Than what he's givin' you
But you must let him know
That you can't take no more
Replace him with me
Someone to lend out his shoulder
That believes in someone deserves it
You can't figure out, what it's all about
Baby (Baby)
Step one, walk through that door
Step two, tell him
He's not like he was before
You don't love him anymore
Round three, come to me
Step four, I'll love you more
You will see how love should be
But there's more steps to complete
Step one, walk through that door
Step two, tell him
He's not like he was before
You don't love him anymore
Round three, come to me
Step four, I'll love you more
You will see how love should be
But there's more steps to complete
The song "I Should Be..." by Dru Hill is about a man who is in love with a woman who is currently in a relationship with another man. The singer tells the woman that he can see she is not happy with her current situation and that he could be a better partner for her. The lyrics suggest that the woman's current partner is unfaithful to her and doesn't treat her well. The singer offers himself as an alternative for her, urging her to leave her current partner and be with him instead.
The song is written in a very catchy and upbeat R&B style that combines elements of soul and pop music. The melody is infectious, and the lyrics have a powerful emotional impact that makes the song resonate with listeners. The chorus of the song is particularly effective, repeating the phrase "I should be your boyfriend" over and over again, driving home the message that the singer believes that he is the better choice for the woman.

Was it mainstream? Most R&B and hip hop wasn't so mainstream back then. The culture was within, our ppl supported our artist... The minute artist strived to go mainstream the culture of R&B and hip hop got lost.
The reason there's no more R&B and hip hop is trash mostly.
