Eternal Sun
Drudkh Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

UNOFFICIAL TRANSLATION

All flows and all passes - this goes on forever
Yet where does it vanish? And whence did it come?
The fool does not know, and the sage knows no better
Life... Death... As here blossoms a one,
Another there withers, beyond a returning...
Its yellow leaves fall to be green never more
But still the bright sun will come up in the morning,
At nightfall the stars will come out as before

To swim in the heavens, and then, gentle sisters
You too, silver moon, will come out for a stroll,
You'll glance as you pass into puddles and cisterns
And sparkle the oceans, you'll shine as of old
You shone over babylon's fabulous gardens
And as ages from now you will still be regarding.

And as the blue sky overhead has no limit,
There's also no start and no end to the spirit.

Overall Meaning

In the song "Eternal Sun" by Drudkh, the lyrics speak about the theme of life, death and the eternal cycle of nature. The opening verse talks about the constant flow of everything and how it keeps passing by forever. The lyrics ask where does it vanish and where did it come from? The fool does not know and the sage knows no better. This refers to the fact that one cannot control the cycle of life and death, it is a part of nature's plan. The following line speaks of how life and death go together, blossoming in one place and withering in another. The yellow leaves of the withered plants will never turn green again. However, the bright sun will come up in the morning and the stars will shine at night, indicating the continuous cycle of nature.

The next verse speaks about swimming in the heavens and calling out to the gentle sisters- the stars. The moon joins them and they pass by puddles and cisterns, sparkling the oceans as they go. The lyrics talk about the moon shining over Babylon's fabulous gardens, which refers to the ancient city of Babylon and its famed Hanging Gardens. The last line in the song states that the spirit has no start and no end, just like the blue sky overhead that has no limit. This speaks to the eternal nature of existence, as the cycle of life and death goes on regardless of human perception.
