After two EPs ("The Chambers and the Valves" and "Bible Belt"), the band were signed to Transgressive Records in 2010. "No Rest", their first single on the label, was released in March 2011. They recorded their debut full-length album, "Shallow Bed", in Connecticut with Peter Katis (producer for The National, Jónsi and Interpol), and released it on March 5, 2012. An acoustic version of "Shallow Bed" was released by download only on 17 December 2012.
The band's projects also include creating a charity t-shirt for the Yellow Bird Project to raise money for Asylum Aid (in March 2011) and designing "Mammoth", a limited edition beer brewed with Signature Brew (in November 2012).
Their second album, "Alarms in the Heart", was released on August 25th, 2014.
They announced their split on their Facebook page on 12 November 2015, along with the release of their final EP, Hooves of Doubt.
Peter Liddle crafted a solo album 'Casual Labour' released 13 July 2018, with a gang of his musical friends, including several from the Dry the River family bassist Scott Miller, keys player Patrick Pearson, string-player Will Harvey, writer Matthew Reynolds along with producer Pete Miles.

Dry the River Lyrics

And a light will flicker on, where there once was none.
Where does love come from?
The bodies in the firmament are spinning like a plate;
I was lost in the fission before you came.
If every constellation above us has a counterpart below,
How are we to know, dear? How are we to know?
I was down in the heart of the ground beneath.
I could write this down, I could turn this car around.
In the land of mistakes I should lay my crosses down.
And I pray for your health, and I tell myself
"It's the chambers and the valves that pump the sentiment around."
But I swallow the words and I close my mouth.
Two old hearts will meet in the middle in the autumn of their years.
How did our love grow, dear? How did we get here?
The bodies in the firmament are spinning like a plate;
I was lost in the fission before you came.
I could write this down, I could turn this car around.
In the land of mistakes I should lay my crosses down.
And I pray for your health, and I tell myself
"It's the chambers and the valves that pump the sentiment around."
But I swallow the words and I close my mouth.
I could write this down, I could turn this car around.
In the land of mistakes I should lay my crosses down.
And I pray for your health, and I tell myself
"It's the chambers and the valves that pump the sentiment around."
But I swallow the words and I close my mouth.
The Chambers & The Valves by Dry the River is a song about the power and mystery of love, as well as the importance of communication and vulnerability in a relationship. The opening lines suggest that love is something that emerges from an unexpected meeting of two people, and that it has the power to create light where there was once darkness. The reference to the "bodies in the firmament" spinning like a plate suggests that the universe is full of mysteries and that we can never truly know how or why we fall in love.
The song also contains a sense of urgency and self-doubt, as the singer considers laying down their crosses and opening up to their partner, but ultimately finds themselves unable to speak. The repeated refrain "It's the chambers and the valves that pump the sentiment around" suggests that emotions are a physical phenomenon, something that can be measured and analyzed, but also something that we cannot fully control or understand. Ultimately, the song is a poignant and bittersweet meditation on the nature of love and the human heart.
