Boss Guitar
Duane Eddy Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There's a little place
Here up town
We're gonna go there

Everybody comes
From miles around
We're gonna go there
And listen to the man
Play the boss guitar
Listen to the man
Play the boss guitar

Listen to the man
Play the boss guitar
Listen to the man
Play the boss guitar

Everybody listen to
The guitar man

Don't go away
We'll be back
Soon as we listen
To the yakety sax

He plays every dance
From A to Z
We're gonna go there

The Stomp and the Wobble
And the Watusi
We're gonna go there

And listen to the man
Play the boss guitar
Listen to the man
Play the boss guitar

Listen to the man
Play the boss guitar
Listen to the man
Play the boss guitar

Oh, play (listen)
Oh, play (listen)

Oh, play (listen)
Oh, play (listen)

Overall Meaning

In Duane Eddy's song "Boss Guitar," the lyrics describe a little place uptown where everybody gathers to listen to the man play his boss guitar. The song speaks to the joy of listening to live music played by a skilled musician, and the energy and excitement that can come from being part of a crowd of people all enjoying the same thing.

The singer encourages the listener to stick around and listen to the yakety sax, and then describes how the guitar man plays every dance from A to Z, including the Stomp, the Wobble, and the Watusi. The repeated refrain of "Listen to the man play the boss guitar" serves as a reminder that the focus of the song is the guitarist himself, and his ability to captivate and entertain the crowd.

Overall, the lyrics to "Boss Guitar" celebrate the power of music to bring people together and create a sense of community and enjoyment.

Duane Eddy has been a favorite of mine since his first tune hit the charts, and you all know how long ago that was. It is so terrific to hear them again. I still have all the original LPs.

I have searched for this track for many years and had decided I had dreamed it - and today - I listened to it for the first time in maybe 45 years - still fresh! Thanks so much.

Fantastic! Great job by you and your band Duane! Thanks for sharing. I wish we could get his version of Ring of Fire from the 1961 movie of the same name that starred David Janssen. Another great one in that movie was when Duane played Bobbie. I wish we could get them on youtube. Both of them were played in the first ten minutes of the movie. A great start for that movie indeed! You go Duane!
