Simple Machine
Dubmood Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Close your eyes, close your eyes, close your eyes now
Gotta close them, gotta close them tight
Close your eyes, close your eyes, close your eyes now
Gotta close them, gotta close them tight

I'm deaf and blind, I like the feeling
It's warm inside, too warm for breathing
Now pause your mind and try to feel the dark
You could've tried, the nights are just too long
Yeah

These thoughts profound
A midnight terror
She said
"Beautiful music everywhere
Beautiful music everywhere"
The sights and sounds
A midnight terror
She said
"Beautiful music everywhere
Beautiful music everywhere"

To my surprise, the sun is bleeding
into my eyes, a fateful greeting
Please let me hide behind a curtained wall
Open the blinds, I'd like to see it all
Yeah

These thoughts profound
A midnight terror
She said
"Beautiful music everywhere
Beautiful music everywhere"
The sights and sounds
A midnight terror
She said
"Beautiful music everywhere
Beautiful music everywhere"

Close your eyes, close your eyes, close your eyes now
Gotta close them, gotta close them tight
Close your eyes, close your eyes, close your eyes now
Gotta close them, gotta close them tight

Close your eyes, close your eyes, close your eyes now
Gotta close them, gotta close them tight

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Dubmood's song Simple Machine convey themes of darkness, sensory deprivation, and existential fear. The opening lines of the song repeatedly urge the listener to close their eyes tightly, heightening a sense of physical and emotional restriction. The singer goes on to describe their own state of being, where they feel deaf and blind but comforted by the feeling of warmth that comes with sensory deprivation. The singer then urges the listener to "pause your mind," suggesting a meditative state and an attempt to connect with darkness.

The second verse of the song introduces a female voice who speaks of "beautiful music everywhere," but this beauty is juxtaposed with the singer's experience of a "midnight terror." The encounter with beauty and terror together highlights the fragility of human consciousness and the unpredictable nature of reality. The singer continues to describe their own experience, this time encountering the light of the sun bleeding into their eyes. They express a desire to hide behind a curtain, suggesting a fear of exposure or vulnerability. The song concludes with a repetition of the opening lines, emphasizing a cycle of restriction and release.

Overall, Simple Machine is a haunting and contemplative song that explores the relationship between sensory input and psychological experience. The lyrics suggest a search for meaning and connection in a world that can be overwhelming and confusing.

Not many channels can make me subscribe, like, and favorite all because of one video. Dubmood has always been one of my favorite chiptune artists but this song brought a tear to me eye by it's sheer quality. I think this is one of the best new chiptune songs I have ever heard. Simply mind-blowing.
